Schools with Automatic Admission Policies (based on ACT/SAT, GPA, etc)

I was wondering if anyone had a list of schools that have automatic admission policies (I've heard that Oklahoma, Oregon, and Missouri do, but am not 100 percent).

I've got about a 3.4 GPA and got a 33 on the ACT, and was wondering if there was anyway to cut my list of safeties down to 1, based on the fact that I would be guaranteed admission.

Thanks for any help!

Any third or fourth-tier state uni would qualify.

You would also make the cut for Indiana U, U of Minnesota, Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan State, Iowa, and Penn State without question (if we’re talking Big 10). Also, U of Wisconsin has a “acceptance chart” floating around here somewhere, and I’m pretty sure you’re in the the 70%-80% range if I remember correctly.

Try for your own state school as a safety and not some random school out there.

Sorry to hijack, but with a 3.83 weighted GPA and a 2200 SAT where would I qualify for auto-admit? I’m looking for some safeties since i probably won’t get into my state flagship(UTexas)

THanks!

LSU, Alabama

LSU, Alabama. Onethefly, apply to LSU, you’ll get an amazing scholarship and there are alot of texans that go to LSU.

I have applied to LSU and already gained acceptance, I hope I get a big scholarship!

also Texas A&M

^ i dont know if that is quite a safety since i am in the 26th%ile

University of North Texas

I only know this because my friend is obsessed with that school

Kansas has an automatic admission policy.

Is that your “weighted” GPA with all your classes included? If your weighted GPA is a 3.5then not only would you get automatic admission to UAlabama, but they would give you free tuition as well (including the OOS portion), which is worth about $80k - since the scholly also includes any future tuition increases…

So, if your transcript has a weighted GPA on it that is 3.5 or higher, you’ll get the Presidential. UA doesn’t refigure GPA…so PE, electives, religion classes are all included in the GPA. UA takes whatever is the highest GPA on your transcript.

I don’t think the LSU scholly is as good as UA’s…UA’s is automatic…all you have to do is apply; if you have the stats, you get it. And, UA is ranked higher than LSU.

I just checked…LSU’s schollies are not as good as UA’s in any way.

So…not only would UA be an auto admit…it could be an auto scholly (if GPA is ok)…so it could be a financial safety for you, too.

onthefly…>>> Sorry to hijack, but with a 3.83 weighted GPA and a 2200 SAT where would I qualify for auto-admit? I’m looking for some safeties since i probably won’t get into my state flagship(UTexas)

What do you mean??? With your stats, you’re much higher than 26th percentile. who told you that??? You’re somewhere in the 90th percentile.

BTW…which scholly did you get from LSU? UA would likely give you more $$ for your stats. What are your Math and Critical Reading SAT scores? If they total to 1400, then you get the Presidential (see next post), which is FULL Tuition - including the Out of state portion - worth about $80,000

UA Automatic Scholarships for Out-of-State students…

Oh, I meant I am not in the top 25% of my high school class rank, but since they use GPA, I am fine. That is fantastic that I automatically get in and get that huge scholarship at UA! Now I have to decide if I would want to go there.

mom2 - I think he’s referring to class rank being 26%ile, which with a 3.83 is very believable - our top 10% cutoff here is 4.02. Amazing how class rank can really vary from school to school, DS is somewhere around 27% and it eliminated the majority of the auto scholarships (Purdue, IU and so many more) Not UA though!

Cross post - fly was too fast!

^ ya so thats great that they go by GPA instead of class rank

Hate to ask, but which UA are you guys talking about? There’s three: Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, and Birmingham, since I’m also interested in something like this.

Tuscaloosa

…

onthefly - it would be close but you might make it…

Academic Admits for Texas A&M
Applicants qualify for automatic academic admission, if:
* they are ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class, and
* achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered

Yes, and the class rank thing in TX is ridiculous. DS#1 (a senior) has a 3.964 WGPA and is right now at the 21st percentile. DS#2, a junior with a 3.67 WGPA is barely in the top 40%. I think the top 10% cutoff for last year’s graduating class was about a 4.2!!!
