Schools with dorms where you have your own bathroom

I was lucky enough to go to a college (New College of Florida) where each room had its own bathroom. Learning this, high on my daughter's list of criteria would be a school with such dorms. Are there other schools in the country that have this? I'm talking as early as freshman year.

PS, this really won't be the deciding factor of where she goes to school, she's not that spoiled, and doesn't primp. We all enjoy a little privacy sometimes . . .

University of Oklahoma has a suite style set up. Two rooms share one bathroom. One of the communities in UC Santa Cruz has a similar style set up, as does the University of Alabama (I believe).

Personally I preferred having a communal bathroom. It meant that they had maids that cleaned it rather than the students.

We had cleaning ladies at New College, too. They cleaned our bathroom and vacuumed the floor. Crazy, I know.

Almost all colleges have that. You just have to pay more.

Almost every college has several housing options, most of which include community and suite style. I think at any college you’d want to go to you’d find suite style. Most of the colleges don’t clean suite style bathrooms though, its up to you.

This actually was a priority for my daughter when she first began her college search (because she is spoiled and does primp!). However, after talking with students who had experienced both communal and suite-style bathroom arrangements, she became a lot more open to the idea of communal bathrooms. A bathroom shared by two-four people will often be occupied when you need it, which is inconvenient when you’re in a rush to get ready or when you really need to go! A communal bathroom will always have showers and toilets available. Another potential problem with suite-style bathrooms is if one or more of your suite-mates leaves the bathroom a mess, hogs up all the space with her own stuff, or doesn’t do her share of the cleaning (which are common gripes). There are obviously cases where it works out just fine, but my daughter ended up in a dorm with communal bathrooms and she actually really likes not having to clean or wait for a shower or toilet. Just something for your daughter to consider! :)

I didn’t mean NC has suite-style bathrooms. Every room in the Pei dorms (when I was there it was all Pei dorms) has it’s own bathroom.

Oklahoma State University has them in the dorms called ‘The Villages’ but you have to apply very early to get in them - About 30 or so rooms with private baths and double beds surround a kitchen, study and living area - Absolutely the nicest dorms I’ve ever seen.

FGCU is all suites. I think the freshmen suites have three separate bedrooms and two bathrooms.

Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus only has apartment style suites/dorms with bathrooms and kitchens. My S was at Fordham’s Rose Hill campus and had a private bathroom soph. through senior years. He thought that having a hall bathroom was a good option for freshman year. But I wouldn’t make this a major issue in the college search.

1 of the 4 freshman dorms at G’town has private bathrooms.

NYU has all previous hotel rooms as dorms so they all have private bathrooms

The above-mentioned Bama dorms have several residence halls that have super-suites…each super suite has 4 private bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room and a kitchenette. Each student in a super suite has his own private bedroom.

Bama has over 4500 of them, and is building 1000 more that will be ready in Fall 2014. They are very popular, but if you apply early, you can usually get one.
