I am a freshman at a community college - I'm looking to transfer.

Possible majors - Journalism, Photography, Anthropology, Political Science, International Studies/Relations, etc. You get my drift, hopefully.

I love photography, writing, enjoying the aesthetic beauty of nature, family, kid's movies, good food. I'm not sporty. I like stimulating my mind but wouldn't feel comfortable in a pretentious environment, either. I'm not the life of the party, but I'm invigorated by being in a culturally thriving city that I would explore and be inspired by. I do not want to be in a bubble during college.

Medium-sized school would be best. I wouldn't want to drown in a sea of students but it would be a little uncomfortable to be at a school that's so small that everyone knows everyone.

I didn't really apply myself in high school but have been getting mostly A's in community college, so a school that would overlook high school and focus on my college work would be good.
Thanks for your suggestions.

HS GPA: sub-2.0
College GPA: above 3.5
SAT:
1st sitting: 800 WR/720 CR/560 M
2nd sitting: 690 WR/740 CR/650 M

BTW - I am in Portland, Oregon right now and I'm originally from the Bay Area of California. Colleges on the West Coast would be a plus, but don't let that stop you from suggesting others!!!

When are you looking to transfer?

Your SAT is very strong, but your HS GPA is abysmal. I suggest you transfer for spring 2012.

Maybe you should consider Pitzer or Scripps. They’re part of the Claremont Colleges and are very good. They are located in Los Angeles County, so they are not far from LA. Scripps is an all girl school, but its part of the consortium so this should not be a big deal and Pitzer is up an coming. I suggest you look into them!

Good luck!

Definitely wait another year. That way you have time to build more of a college record while settling on a major. If you’re transferring as a junior, you definitely don’t want to be so unsure of what you want to do.

@ honeyedsunlight: First of all, I think that’s a really cool sn! :D

I transferred to Berkeley this semester actually (I was a spring admit). In high school I received a sub 2.0 GPA also :/. I transferred from a CCC in the Bay Area as well! I’m from San Mateo. If you were to come back to California and go to a CCC here, you’d have a great shot at Berkeley…and tbh, judging by everything you wrote, you are perfect to be a Bear. Message me if you have questions or anything :). I wish you the best of luck!

PS. I know Berkeley is big, but I promise you it can feel small if you get to know your professors and make a few solid friends. It’s all about finding where you fit in, your niche, and making it work from there.

You sound like a good fit at Northwestern, but I don’t think they enroll many CC students.
