I really want to transfer from my current college (which is a really small, LAC with almost no school spirit, a cliquey atmosphere, a "play hard all the time" mentality, and a very rural setting) to somewhere bigger with a strong journalism program and lots of school spirit. I would also prefer that there is a social aspect to the school as well as not a completely farm town setting. Also, I would like to transfer for the spring 2011 semester. I live near Chicago, and would prefer to stay in the Midwest, but feel free to offer suggestions of schools not in the Midwest! I'm not THAT picky!

My statistics are:
HS GPA: 3.4 (approximately, we had a different GPA system at my high school)
ACT Score: 29
College GPA: 3.43
Extracurriculars in college: - News editor of the college's newspaper
- Volunteer tutor for local elementary school students
- Committee member of Relay for Life
- Member of the school's media honors program
- Volunteer admissions aide

Cost really isn't an issue, but I would prefer to not have to pay too much.

What about Syracuse/Newhouse? I know it’s in upstate NY, but it fits all of your other criteria. It has tons of school spirit, the communications program is great, and the school is VERY social.

Any other schools located in the Midwest? I have family out East but my parents are mad at them right now so it will be hard convincing them to look out there.

Ohio University. It’s a rather large public school in Athens, Ohio with a really strong journalism school. It’s called the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. I think you need to have a 25 ACT or 1140 SAT and be in the top 15(or so)% of your graduating high school class to be considered for admission as a freshman and 30 semester hours and at least a 3.0 GPA for transfer admission.

OU may not be as prestigious as, say, Northwestern, but I’ve heard good things about it.

@Lobzz Thanks for Northwestern, but I would never go there undergrad. I live about a 15 minute bike ride from campus, so it’s just a little too close for comfort for me! I always tell people had I not grown up where I did, I would totally go to Northwestern.

@meShannon I’ve heard great things about OU, thank you for the suggestion. My high school didn’t rank, would that be an issue for them? I will definitely look into OU though.
