So lately I’ve been looking into theatre groups at the schools I’m applying to because I’d like to be involved with theatre in college without having to major or minor in it. So far I’ve found that I really like UCLA (Their Hooligan Theatre Company looks like so much fun) and UC Berkeley’s groups, but I’m having trouble finding student theatre organizations at a lot of the schools I’m applying to.
Since UCLA and Berkeley are both reaches for me, I’d like to know if anyone has any idea of less selective schools that have groups sort of like the ones I’ve mentioned?
Are you looking for student-run theatre groups, or would a theatre department that allows anyone to participate in productions be good enough?
What is your interest? Performance? Production? Tech? Design?
There also is nothing wrong with forming your own theatre group once you get to campus. There will be other non-majors/non-minors who might enjoy being involved, and there are likely to be majors/minors (especially design majors) who want/need opportunities too.
@happymomof1 I would be happy with either student run groups or an actual theatre department! As for my interest, I’m mainly interested in performance, though design might also be interesting too.
I’m certainly not opposed to starting my own group, but I would definitely prefer to get involved with groups that already exist.
