Hello, i'm a hs senior and i'm looking for another college. my secret goal in life is to major in music (theory, not conservatory-style). But since i know how risky it is and all, i want to go to a very prestigious (i know, i'm a snob) school all around, too, for something like math. My list now has princeton, oberlin, and university of rochester. I'm also applying to cornell, but it's weird feeling cuz it's so close to home. Can anyone help me find another school in the middle here in terms of acceptance, so, similar to cornell, that has very good composition/theory programs?

Hi. You'll find lots of great suggestions at composition program suggestions thread (just below yours right now); it's broader ranging, but includes mentions in the most selective schools category you are seeking.

Good luck.

also consider johns hopkins - peabody, and northwestern.

Take a look at the Unoiversity of Chicago- considered by many highly educated people to be one of the best universities in the country- an "Ivy" without the ivy attitude. They have a very good non-conservatory music program. A word of caution- it is very difficult to do 2 majors- both math and music for instance, because of the requirements of the "core" as well as the tough academic requirements of each dept. No grade inflation either- you have to be willing to work hard, but you end up with one of the best undergraduate educations possible.
