Schreyer Applications

Hi, I was about ready to submit my full SHC application but realized there are some short answer questions. They have an 800-word limit, is it expected that I use these 800 words like the previous three essays? Also, it states that I need a certain amount of recommenders, these are the same ones from the CommonApp, correct?

@hotsauce240 The short answers are truly that - maybe a paragraph or two? You should spend the bulk of your time on the 3 big essays…

I don’t know if the recommenders are the same as the Common App, because Penn State (non-Schreyer) doesn’t even look at recommendations. I would call admissions and ask if they pull the Common App recommendations or if they need to be submitted separately.

good luck

@lucyvanpelt thanks so much. I will be able to complete these short answer questions reasonably quickly. I have not called the admissions office regarding recommendations, but now that you mention PSU doesn’t use recommendations, I am sure Schreyer will look at the ones assigned on the common App. Thanks again

@hotsauce240 I would think they would - but I wouldn’t assume it. It would be worth a phone call to ensure they pull the recommendations from the Common App. Then you have an answer, not just a “I assume they would”.

i may have accidentally added the word “as” in a place where it was not supposed to be: When I joined the tennis I team I was as a freshman… in my most significant extracurricular short answer question. Very worried, is a small typo like that going to affect my chances as I love Schreyer!

no, don’t worry :wink:

@MYOS1634

Thanks!!!

dooes Schreyer have an in-state bias or does state residency not matter?

@PurpleLlama066 in-state vs out of state residency does not matter for Schreyer.

It is way more important to have spent time writing the essays than hand-wringing about in-state vs out-of-state.

(And FYI… using the word “bias” probably is not a good word choice).
