Schreyer decisions

I would be surprised if they accepted more than 500 of the 2150 applicants. They don't want the class to be too big or too small, but they'll leave some room with about 500.

I heard it's more like 600 accepted. Most of those you hear on this board will be those who are accepted - those who are rejected are less likely to post.
There were some surprising rejections at my son's high school last year.

Accepted! OOS--1490/1600--730 writing--GPA 4.0uw

One of my many concerns , party atmosphere etc. is the housing. On the acceptance notice it stated that the first year was only guaranteed at Atherton and Simmons. Anyone would further insight?

Janesmom- congrats!!
In our experience, honors kids who want to continue living in Atherton and Simmons can do so for all four years. They are considered Special Living Options and are handled outside of the normal (crazy) process. The dorms are far from palaces but they're nicely located and offer quite a few nice perks (dining halls, study areas, computer labs). Per my son, they are also MUCH quieter than most of the freshman dorms (like East). He does most of his studying in his room.
My son will be moving off campus next year - he's a sophomore. Loves his roommate but wanted to room with a few more friends who are NOT in the honors college. But - he could stay if he wanted, and from what I understand, most Schreyer students do, especially in their second year. Being in the honors college really helps with housing AND with registration too. Good luck.

Schreyers students this yr. have the option of staying in the same room/same floor the next year. Creates a nice group of friends.

S still has not heard from Schreyers. It's been a long time from the supposed February 22 release date. Anyone else out there still waiting?

Just heard from a friend that her kid didn't make it - they just got the letter Friday. Apparently, lots of kids from our competitive suburban high school did NOT get in this year. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting!

toneranger, i know how you feel.
We had about 15 apply from my school and only 4 got in.
Thankfully one of them was me!
I'm sending my deposit in on Monday.

So, you have been accepted to Schreyer!

Our letters of acceptance went out this past week. You spent the admissions process telling us why we should accept you. NOW we have to tell you why you should accept us! What questions do you have about the SHC? Not sure if this is the place for you? Is State College too cold? Are there enough research opportunities? Travel abroad? Internships? Ask away! Use the comment section here and I will be happy to reply. Better yet, if you would you like to hear directly from our current students pop over to the Student Blog and ask them. Post a comment on a current blog or shoot me an email and I will post something and ask the students to reply.

So ask away! We want you to know as much as possible about us, SHC, and PSU as you make your decision.

I was told by the Schreyer dean that I got in when I went up to visit at the beginning of February...and I have yet to receive any sort of notification from them...anyone else from PA still waiting to hear/

call them. we have found the Schreyer staff to be very friendly and responsive.

rejected:
750 math, 780 reading
4.25 weighted gpa, 3.9 unweighted
6 AP classes
decent activities (multiple activities every year), no leadership positions
in state
class rank: around 20/450

wow, user, that's a shocker. Did you get in UP anyway and would you still consider going?

yeah, im still thinking about going because of the college of information sciences and technology...im hoping to get some scholarship money from them, and i also got into the gemstone program at maryland

IST seems awesome. There's always junior yr. for schreyers if you wanted. Lots of sons friends with similiar stats are at PSU and not in honors. Didn't want the honors class "hassle"

Anyone else get their results and care to share?
