schreyers

Do you think the letters might be here on Wednesday?

Do you think a wait would hurt you?
Easy there fella's, it'll be here soon enough :-)

Daughter received Schreyer acceptance today - we are local, though. Mail may take another day or two to areas outside of Happy Valley! Good news, the Schreyer award is up $1,000 this year to $3,500. Hope this helps.

that's great! I didn't know the scholarship amount was up-it isn't on teh website. more pressure building...

Nope, just more suprises.

Acceptance received here in the Pittsburgh suburbs. :D^3

It was nice that they upped the Academic Excellence Scholarship by $1,000 -- there is no doubt that PSU's tuition/other costs will be on the rise each year.

congratulations! can you post your stats? (just to torture myself further with the suspense)

Hi lygomorta. Thank you! Good luck to you and everyone else w/ the decisions! I know how nerve-racking the wait is. I've been thinking about the decision almost non-stop whenever I've been home since Friday Night (after hearing rumors on here that the decisions might arrive on 2/18).

My stats--->

SAT RT CR + M = 1450
Cumulative weighted GPA = 4.66
Class rank = 3/485 or something -- not sure of the denominator

ECs/other stuff: Math club founder, NHS member, JCL member, video club member, research project conducted on 9/17/2004 flooding near Pittsburgh at the local National Weather Service office, independent study of pre-calculus in the summer of 2004, babysitting/lawn care job ...

Does instate vs. oos affect Schreyer admissions the way it would affect PSU admissions in general?

hey I'm actually the daughter of the person who was posting earlier under this name . . . I'm a townie, I've lived in State College my whole life. 60 people applied from our high school, and I'm not sure how many got in but the word is that it is a lot more than usual, which just goes to show you that they don't care where you are from. I'm not sure about instate vs. oos but I'm pretty sure they go for whoever's qualified no matter where they live. good luck everyone!

a lot of people were accepted to schreyers or to university park?

Also, does anyone know of any Schreyers rejections yet?

People who post on these boards are normally pretty qualified, and the acceptance rate here probably won't reflect the true rate. Easy up guys we'll see the letters soon enough.

sorry . . . a lot were accepted to schreyer. what I'm trying to say is if they accept that many people from one school, it really doesn't matter where you live. otherwise they would have some kind of restriction on people from State high I guess . . . ? maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. sorry. oh yeah and this is still me not my mom.

I'm also pretty sure that a lot of people applying and gaining acceptance into Schreyer are qualified enough to get into 'better ranked' schools, and some will turn down schreyer in order to go to the other schools. Thus, the enrollment % is as important as the acceptance %.

Good luck to everyone else who applied :-)

I have been checking this board for the past month in hopes learning some admissions news. As my neighbor who is in Schreyer was accepted in Mid-January (applied and accepted 2 yrs ago), I have been anxious since then, but it seems this year they are strictly sticking to the deadline. The main reason why I am so anxious about the decision is that the only schools I applied to were PSU and Schreyer, and while PSU is a great school, getting admitted to Schreyer would be somewhat of a validation of all the hard work I put in in high school. Plus, a LOT of kids in my school got accepted to PSU UP, and call me an elitist if you like, but if Schreyer doesnt work out, then basically all of my work would have been in vain. (Sure, sure Id be "better prepared', but thats bs to me, and not enough reason for my rigorous courses and [general] abstinence from partying throughout high school. Like most people on here, I have worked my ass off for four years, a lot of times sacrificing play for work, and to have to go to the same school and be on the same level as those in my school who didnt put much effort in just doesnt seem right. Good luck to everyone out there who haven't heard anything yet; I know I'll be a praying man tonight.

Why didn't you just apply to more matches?

the nice thing with schreyers is that this decision isnt the final decision, sortof. i know of at least three people who were offered schreyers their sophomore year. (they all thought it was too nerdy, so they declined. shows how much they know.)

That's a good question that I'm kicking myself for not thinking of earlier.

Well, best of luck. :)
