Due to scheduling conflicts (my required classes conflict with my “electives”) , it looks as if I’ll only be able to take one (or two if I’m lucky) science AP classes in my entire high school career. Will this hurt me in college admissions to elite schools (I’m applying as a biochemistry major)?
Because you are applying as a biochem major, colleges will want to see your interest and success in higher level science classes so, yes, this could be a problem. At the very least, have your GC note why you could not fit more AP science classes into your schedule.
You.can ask your guidance counselor to note the schedule conflicts in his/her letter of recommendation.
taking AP Bio or AP Chem is fine.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
1 or 2 > 0. Therefore I’ve edited the click bait title, sine “no science AP’s” is inaccurate.
No college expects any student to take every single science AP - 1 or 2 is fine.
Sorry for the confusion- I wrote the title before thinking about the matter deeply. I just meant to ask because this year I’m taking 5 social science/english APs (and I took APUSH the year before). I’ve talked to my counselor (briefly, I guess I could have a more in depth conversation) and she said I could take AP chem OR bio next year, however I’m scared that it’ll be concerning that I have only taken one AP science class but have taken about 9 social science classes.
It is normal to take one science class a year in a HS schedule so it is not unusual to have more APs in all of your other subjects combines.
