I heard Amherst works really hard to get its pre-med students into med school and was wondering if anybody knew if wellesley had a good/rigorous science department?

Absolutely. The pre-med advising is very strong, and Wellesley graduates have very good acceptance rates to medical schools. A [url="http://www.wellesley.edu/PublicAffairs/Fact_sheet-06.pdf"]public-affairs factsheet/url, distributed by the College cites a 70% acceptance rate in 2005. The national average in 2004 (nearest info I can find without a longer search) was just under 48%.

There are politics involved in these numbers, but a 70% acceptance rate is very good.

Amherst students have nearly 100% acceptance, but that's probably due to the same politics as the 70% for Wellesley: students who aren't likely to be accepted are strongly discouraged by advisors from applying.

i didnt know that...thanks so much!
