Any input on whether to take Astronomy with Weintraub or Geology with Claiborne?
Weintraub is a wonderful person and inspiring scientist. Hopefully students will comment on his course for you. My son had him for an honors scholar course that did not have a lab. Our son thought that Geology would be the smart way to go for a lab science but he is not very visual and had an unexpectedly not happy time identifying rocks! Totally stumped by them and didn’t study hard enough. It is not always the “easy” plan is my point. He dropped Geology. Eventually took Biology with a much happier experience as his lab science–just speaking for one student’s experience.
There is a version of Biology below the “general biology” that STEM majors take. It is lovingly called “baby bio,” not sure the course’s actual name (Biology Today or something like that), but it is a common lab science as well. So is Oceanography. I’ve always thought biology was the best option. Much more practical/interesting (to me) than the others and people seem to like the course.
I am sure that Pancake is correct and our son was in the non-stem major biology which he found to be demanding in a totally reasonable and doable way. Lots of memorization.
