yes it is. according to the first year guide it is anyway. on page 27 or somewhere where it has the schedule of tests, I believe I saw biol 101/L there.

okay so it doesn't sound like I should take 102H with morse, and it doesn't sound like I should take 241. hmm
so should I just take 102?

You can take 102, depending on who teaches it. Who's teaching it?
Do not take Chem 241, you will be one of few freshman and the rest of the class will be soph, jun, and sen who have all taken a chem class on campus before. Also, the chem 241 lab is known as the worst lab at UNC.

i think my roommate tried the chem placement test and failed it, if i remember correctly.
don't jump into upper-level science classes without any idea as to what you're getting into. classes at college will be harder than your high school courses were.

Which Bio 101 and Bio 101L professor shouldl I take?

Who's offered? DeSaix or Hogan on there?

Is it okay for a freshman to take chem 101 and bio 101 on his first semester?
Will this be an overload?

there's a decent chance your life will suck if you do. those courses both take up a ton of TIME--you'll be devoting hours upon hours to studying and doing lab write-ups. your first semester should be a time for meeting people and getting in the swing of things, not overloading yourself with classwork. you have seven more semesters and three summers to fit everything in, which is plenty of time!

i have like 5 semesters left after my first semester.lol.
thanks for the heads up!
So how should my first semester look like?
Should I take Bio 101 w/ lab or Chem 101 w/ lab on the first semester?

doesn't really matter--i'd say they're both essentially the same amount of time/effort, although i hear that bio is more rote memorization and chem is more calculations and understanding.

also, keep in mind that i'm NOT a science major. but my roommate last year was pre-pharm, other close friends of mine are bio or chem majors, and my boyfriend is majoring in comp sci, so i've definitely seen their pain (& heard them complain!) :)

thanks!!!!

I disagree, Chem and Bio are not the same in difficulty. I took Chem 102 and Bio 101 at the same time and Chemistry took up a lot more of my time. Keep that in mind. I'm a Business major doing Pre-med if that gives you any indication

Chemistry you have to keep up with, Biology you can get by with studying really hard a couple of days before the exams

Any indication of what?

I agree that Chem 102 is harder than Bio 101 (for most people), but Bio still sucks. I know a lot of people who studied really hard for Bio tests and still didn't do well... ugh. Just look forward to the day you are out of general Chem and Bio 101! Ha!

it probably also has to do with who you are. some people might be better in biol than chem, or vice versa.

I does depend on who you are but time wise you usually spend more time on chem with labs and test prep and webassign if you are given webassign. Bio lab is not that bad in comparison and bio classes dont have web assign and some profs don't drop lowest exams grade.
