So I’m a sophomore guy from a largish high school (500 people in my class). I really love science of all types, but I’m not really super sure how to get more involved in it through school. I’m in HOSA and Science Olympiad, and outside of school I job shadow at hospitals and volunteer at a wildlife preserve. I really want to get more involved, but I’m not really sure how. I’ve though about starting some of the Olympiad teams at my school, like biology and chemistry, but I’m not sure who to ask. Do you guys have recommendations on some science-oriented extracurriculars I could do, or how to start a Olympiad team in those subjects?
Thanks
Science Bowl is pretty fun. Science National Honors Society could have some good outreach opportunities.
Regarding starting an olympiad, find a bio or Chem teacher and do the paperwork. It’s too late to register your school for bio, but there’s always next year.
My kid loved FIRST Robotics.
You could always assist in research. There are some pretty good fourms on here dealing with how to contact people about it.
I’ve done some research about assisting in research, but they always seem to want someone more experience. Should I just keep emailing scientists in my area about it until I get a yes? It’s kind of hard, given that I live in a smallish-city.
