Science Fairs

[i'm not sure if this is the right forum for this...]

I've been interested in participating in a science fair for quite awhile now. The researching part actually seems very intriguing and fun to me.
The only thing that's keeping me back is finding where to start.

I've always wondered...do the questions/researches (for like the Intel competition and what not) find an answer to a problem that hasn't been solved or discovered yet? Or do they re-experiment and just discover for themselves something that has been discovered already...

any ideas on how to find mentors as well?

Thank you in advance :)

Intel/Siemens projects make new discoveries. Look at the websites of local universites and see if you can get a mentor there. e-mail me for more info, if you'd like.

my school has its own science research class. we get placements in colleges/labs around the city and our research coordinator gets us registered for science fairs. INTEL STS and Siemens are very tough to get into, but if you have a good project, good luck to you!
