Science National Honor Society

So at the end of my junior year (this past May), I was voted the president of our school's Science National Honor Society. This is a real honor for me, because I typically don't win school elections (the other people who have been voted since freshman year keep getting voted because they're known to be responsible and good at getting stuff done).

So basically, this is a huge accomplishment for me and I want to show the members of SNHS that they made the right choice in voting for me. If you guys wouldn't mind, what have your schools' honor societies done? When I was running for this position, I mentioned in my speech that I would do stuff like take them on field trips to science-y places (local hospitals, science museums, etc.) and have people working in the science field come in and talk about their experiences in their respective careers.

Do you guys have any other ideas? I'm open to input, and I'm looking to make this a really productive year, since most of the honor societies at our school (and across the nation, tbh) have a reputation for not really accomplishing much, if anything.

There’s not a whole lot that an honors society can typically do, often because the members tend to be loaded up with lots of other activities during the school year.
I’ve always personally wanted to collaborative research projects in science-based clubs. Those are not practical for the most part where I am, since the students tend to not want to do any work that too closely resembles schoolwork, but you may be able to get it going over there. Just everyone doing a small portion of research for an overall large or interesting science project, and if your lucky you may even be able to get a college professor to help you out.

I was a member of the Science national honors society at our school, and all we did was do a science fair at school. I really only did it for the cords at graduation and to pad my EC’s, honestly. Which is probably what a lot of folks do it for.
