Science Olympiad (Exp. Design, Bio, Forensics)

Anyone do any of these events? Any tips?

I did Exp. Design, our materials required that we know quite a bit about chemistry... I haven't had chemistry...

In total I did:
Exp. Design
Chem Lab
Astronomy
Circuit Lab

I'm captain of our Varsity SO team, but my entire team (including me) were freshman, and we weren't prepared for anything except Circuit lab... we even skipped the awards ceremony.

I really can't give you any advice... except... don't spill the water. XD

Experimental Design: practice a lot a lot a lot. know some stats. (standard deviation, etc.) make sure at least one person knows physics, and at least one person knows chemistry.

Cell Bio: know your organelles, know how photosynthesis and respiration works, know transcription/translation

Forensics: ahhh, my favorite event. this one is a b****. know how to identify all the chemicals, all the fibers, all the plastics, and practice doing them. know fingerprint characteristics and lifting methods really well, and practice being able to compare fingerprints quickly. know lots of spectroscopy. the other things aren't as important, but always help.

soinc.org is the website for you.

I got ownnnnnned by Cell Bio, but that's because I was told that I was going all of two days before the event and thus had little time to study (as I was doing Health Science too).

You really should know stuff like the ATP cycle, how surface area relates to volume, how a cell's shape can be indicative of its function, etc.
