Science Portion Help?

Hey guys,

So I just took 2 practice tests and got 30 on the first one, 32 on the second.

I constantly get 30-32 on English, 33-35 on Math, 34-36 on Reading, and 28-29 on Science. Any help on science? If I can pull my mark up on Science I'd be golden! It seems like the curve is extremely harsh on the Science portion and the time is very limited (more so than on the other sections). What did you guys do to raise your Science scores?

Also, out of curiosity, would getting a 30-33 on the ACT + 10-12 on Writing not look good for Ivy league admissions?

I am also a Canadian applicant if that adds any relevant information.

The middle 50% of most Ivies are 32-35.

Science is just simply an extension of reading passages, just with additional data. You need to be familiar with data extrapolation from abundance of unnecessary information. I personally just skip right to questions after reading the two sentence blurb at the very beginning. Also I do the opposing arguments section the last because of its time consuming nature.

@viphan‌ - I actually just did that for the last 2 passages and it was much faster. If I did that for all of the passages, do you think I’d perform better? I think I’d be lest time stressed.

If I get something like a 30-33, lets say a 32, with a good writing score, would I be right up there with the rest of the admits?

Although standardized test score is a major component of college admission, it’s not the sole factor as we all know. Your GPA, ECs, essays, awards and other important things come into play. Considering you are an exceptional applicant, 32 would make you a bottom of the 50% of a Ivy admits.

@viphan‌ - I am applying from Canada and have an extremely unique life story. Do you think that would make up for let’s say a 32 on the ACT, or should I really try to get 34+?

Regardless of your personal story, higher is always better. International applicants are always at a disadvantage however.

@viphan - Totally agree. We may be at a disadvantage compared to Americans, but I’m pretty sure the International pool differs greatly in terms of scores, etc. compared to the American one!
