science programs at gtwon any good?

i know g-town is known for its international & politics programs...but are they any good as far as science is concerned? im looking at uva, vanderbilt, rice, and usc also..and wanted to figure out which school is most reputable in the sciences, specifically bio & chem...i know g-town has a great premed program, with a very high med school acceptance rate, but that doesnt reflect the strength of its science depts. could u g-town students give me an idea as to the strength of the school in this area and compare it to the other ones i've listed?

actually, the high acceptance rate to med school is an excellent indicator of the strength of the science programs at georgetown. med schools wouldn't be so quick to accept georgetown students if they had doubts in the program.

i'm a sophomore biochemistry major, i took one year of human biology and general chemistry last year, and i'm finishing a year of organic chemistry and physics right now.

my biology class was not in the college, so i cannot speak about intro bio. but after human bio, i knew every muscle, bone, tendon, artery/vein and nerve in the body. we finished the required pre-med curriculum in gen/chem in april, so we started inorganic chemistry. physics has sucked because the teacher is terrible, i won't lie. georgetown organic chemistry is one of the most comprehensive and demanding organic classes in the country. people who take the mcat say the easiest part is the orgo because by the time you finish the class, you know the subject inside and out.

there are so many opportunities for undergraduate research during the year and during the summer, many are paid, some are not. while most pre med students are pretty intense, there is virtually no competition with other students in the sciences. with a B average in chem/biochem, a Ph.D from any of the ivies would be a logical next move if med school is not your thing. chem and bio are smaller departments than most at georgetown, but their strength is recognized by the people who matter.

I'm very interested in leanring about this too. I'm also wondering how the science department for those not interestered in pre-med How about the physics department?
I realize georgetown isn't going to have the big-name research and prestige as other science programs, but how is it for those in the program?

I wouldn't necessary rave about the science equipment (unless you're in the NHS, which has amazing facilities), but the pre-med classes at G-town are rigorous and the teachers really know their stuff. There's lots of kids who drop pre-med throughout, but you are going to get that with any pre-med program. Expect the science courses at G-town to be harder when you start comparing what you're doing to what you're friends are doing at other schools and expect to not do so well on a couple of exams, but pray that it'll all work out in the end. The sciences at G-town are small but strong and the professors are amazing. The best thing that I like about being pre-med at Georgetown is that it has a good science base, but you really learn a lot about the other social, economic factors, and political factors that goes into health that's necessary if you are interest in practicing medicine and not just science.
