How strong are the science programs at COW. It seems they have a very small number of students with majors in the sciences i.e. chemistry ,biology, biochem etc. I know about the fancy stats about going on to phd programs. How about ACTUAL (#) students being admitted to medical, dental and podiatry programs from this third tier school with it's beautiful campus? Thanks in advance for any enlightment.

First of all, the College of Wooster is not a third tier liberal arts college. If anything, it’s in the second tier after the elite liberal arts colleges. (On a related note, Wooster is not elite either. Arguably it could be, but that’s not part of its mission.)

It goes without saying but Wooster has one of the best senior capstone programs in the country.

Wooster has strong science programs, especially in chemistry. Raw data doesn’t even begin to tell the story. Two students just won Goldwater Foundation scholarships. Look up faculty in the fields that interest you. Look at the student profiles and alumni news. Here are some links:

The first link gives you an idea of what chemistry majors did after graduation. It’s a pretty impressive list, if you ask me. A third tier liberal arts college could not match those achievements. (And there arguably is a third tier of liberal arts colleges. But I think you should get over the whole tier thing anyway.) To put that into perspective, elite colleges like Amherst and Williams have better placement records, but Wooster is still quite competitive in the sciences as well as the social sciences and humanities.

Jaelai, Thank you for taking the time to write. I am impressed!
