Most selective colleges require 3 to 4 years of lab sciences. Are lab science only bio, chem, and physics? I have already taken bio and chem, and I REALLY do not want to take physics!!! Do you think enviromental science can count in place of that??

Mostly 2 yrs of lab science/3 yrs science. Yes, if it's AP Enviro I think.

Thanks for replying :)

hmm...if its a top tier college like an ivy league or if you're applying to say, a med program, it would be a very smart decision to take lab science for at least three and sciences for all four. Also, make sure that you're doing well in all those science classes, as its the core classes of science, math, humanities, that count =)

Heh, I got into Tufts only taking Earth/Space, Bio, and Physics...never even took chemistry...silly guidance counselors.

It may be worth considering whether you might actually need to know something about physics at some point.

Will you have to take a physics course as part of your college major? If you will, having a background in high school physics is a really good idea. I knew some biology majors in college who had not taken high school physics, and they had a much more difficult time with the two required physics courses than the rest of us did.

Most of the selective colleges like to see the full range of standard sciences (bio, chem & physics). After you've got those, whatever other science you take is up to you.

I guess i can't escape physics....erg.

4pplesauce if you don't want to take physics, don't plan to go into engineering/science/med in college, and the school doesn't require it for graduation, then you don't have to take it.

I know for certain i will not major in those fields, but i want to be considered as a serious canidate in top liberal arts colleges like amherst, pomona, weslyean, etc.

4pplesauce - it shouldnt be a problem at LAC if you havent taken every science class available to you. Most schools post their "Recommendations" for classes, try checking into those.
