Sciences Po Columbia Dual BA 2016 Entry

Did anyone not accept their offer? Still waiting to hear about waiting list…

I accepted mine @whatnext28

@whatnext28 I didn’t accept their offer. I got into Menton. Please post an update and best of luck!

Hey guys,

Can a Columbia GS student somehow transfer into the program?

I am sorry to tell you that from what I understand that it is not possible to transfer in to this program.

Hi @Dramaticv,

I am a current student and tour guide/ambassador for the program. The Dual BA Program is geared toward graduating high school students, and students in the program are typically traditionally-aged, which is why it is very rare for current GS students to transfer into the program. However, you could look at study abroad opportunities in France and at Sciences Po, which are options for current GS students. The best would be to speak with your academic advisor, and staff members at the Office of Global Programs. https://columbia.studioabroad.com/

@GSTourGuides Thanks for your helpful comment.

Hey! Does anyone clearly know what you are supposed to write in essay II? Thank you very much

Is there any specific information on acceptance rates and student statistics anywhere?

Per an earlier posting by Laetitia…
:Hi all,

@DualDegreeSeeker @vossari

Glad to help out. Regarding admissions stats, this year the Office of Admissions received about 400 applications. 150 students were chosen for an interview, and around 100 will be offered admission to the Dual BA program.

So you know, I am in my last year in the program (graduating this May) and I currently major in Urban Studies at Columbia. I studied at the transatlantic program in Reims when I was at Sciences Po.

@alabamashakesss there are opportunities for financial assistance for international students. Once offered admission to the program, students will be asked to provide financial information to the Office of Educational Financing at GS who will put together a 4-year package so you can map out the expenses for the whole program. International students qualify for institutional aid at GS, which is a mix of need and merit, and varies for every student. International students may also find employment opportunities on campus, up to 20 hours per week. I would recommend you contact the office directly who can provide individualized recommendations specific to your case, at gsfinancialaid@columbia.edu. You can also read more about financing options at https://gs.columbia.edu/financing-your-education.

Hey guys, I’m thinking of applying to this for Fall 2017. Anyone know of an average accepted student profile? Anyone got accepted and have a profile?

@ChessPlayer0004 I will be applying this year as well. I would also be very interested in some profiles… Do you know whether there is a new feed for the students applying this year?

@ChessPlayer0004 @LukasH I’m in the Dual BA now! I’m a first year at the Reims campus in France. Not sure if there’s a new thread, I check this one from time to time so if you tag me in any questions I’ll see them and will answer you  Average profile? Life: I’m Greek, born in Athens, moved to New York when I was 3, moved to Puerto Rico when I was 6, back to Greece when I was 7, and then to Madrid, Spain when I was 13. I did the IB, with Math, English, French, and History HL, and Chemistry and Spanish SL. I had a 3.8 GPA and 2100 SAT (with the old SAT). That’s pretty much it in terms of overall profile, if you have any other questions just ask or message me

Hey, @vossari I’d like to ask you a question about the standardized tests, etc

I’m preparing my application at the moment and I’m actually more or less confident about it (although I know that it’s very competitive, of course). At any rate, it would be the perfect fit for me and I really hope I get accepted!

So: I’m actually a very good student (from Europe), nearly fluent in English and French (both between C1 and C2 level) and in my mother tongue. However, the standardized tests (ACT, SAT) are extremely hard for me just due to the fact that English has never been the language of instruction during my education… I’ve only learnt it as a foreign language. So I know that my scores won’t be great at all which lets me feel pretty insecure  Do you know how the test scores are handled in terms of international applicants?

Many thanks in advance!

Im not exactly sure if the admissions team handles test scores differently for foreigners. But from my experience, I feel that test scores, while being important, are not the biggest deciding factor. I would recommend that you do your best for the scores and focus more on the essays.

@FalafelHummus Thank you for your reply!

Hi guys! I made a new thread for 2017 applicants. Feel free to contribute!

@DualBAapplicant Hey, I’m a 1A in Reims  About your question concerning standardized tests - I have a friend from Austria who was also a very good student (she got in) and she did not have great SAT scores for the same reason that you were describing. I think it doesn’t matter all that much because they know that the SAT is difficult for non-American students. Also, since the program is small, you can be sure that they will really be looking carefully at your application, so your SAT scores will only be one item in your application. So overall, don’t worry about it too much!

Hey guys!

I’m an international student from Latin America pursuing undergrad studies at Sciences Po, haven’t decided which campus yet. Has anyone got any idea on typical IB requirements to get in? Plus, if GPA is important or not…

Thanks!

@tubieguita which year are you applying for? There’s probs a thread for it. Requirements depend on whether you’re applying to a Dual BA or not and on so many other things, so make sure you ask on the right thread
