I am considering applying to Fordham and would like to know more about the strength of the science departments. I know Fordham is known for business, but its location and campus is appealing. I would apply to the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx if that makes any difference. Also I would like to know what percentage of students identify as Catholic and if it is a big influence on campus.
Beside the business courses, Fordham has pretty strong courses in sciences – Biology, Engr Physics, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Neuroscience…It looks like about 45% students identify as Catholics. It doesn’t seem to have a big influence – there are only two core-curriculum religious courses and one of those is flexible on its content (https://www.fordham.edu/info/20317/core_curriculum).
My S graduated from Fordham (loved it). He had friends of different religious as well as atheists/agnostics who were happy there. The Jesuits are educators first and foremost and do not force religion on anyone. That said, to be comfortable at Fordham (or another similar college) I think one should; 1) be respectful of religion; 2) have no issue with seeing some religious symbols on campus (ex. crucifix); and 3) look at the core curriculum and be fine with the idea of taking any required philosophy/theology courses.
Thanks for the responses. I would most definitely be fine with religious symbolism and a few religion courses.
