Is anyone willing to give me information about the science programs at Fordham. I know this is a really broad subject, but I want to get a general idea of the science programs, since I already know Fordham has great pre-law and pre-business type programs.

i am wondering the same thing. i want to go pre med and i noticed they have a 90% acceptance rate for med school, although they probably only let the students they think are qualified apply

I am not specifically familiar with the Science Departments, at least enough to comment with some degree of depth and accuracy. There are some new environmental science majors being offered. They own their own Biological Station in Armonk New York. Its adjacent to the Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Gardens which offer joint programs with Fordham. They have joint programs with the Albert Einstein School of Medicine of Yeshiva University. There is a high medical school placement record, including some Ivy schools and other prestigious schools. They have a very highly regarded graduate program in Psychology.

The best place to find out what you are looking for is the Fordham website and dig through the Departments you are looking for, look at the programs, courses and professors. You might even contact a professor and ask questions by email.

I’m not a science major myself, but a ton of people I know are, so here’s basically what I know:

Science tends to be a bit more intensive than the business and humanities majors. First year you usually have to take two semesters of bio and chem, plus calculus. The reason science tends to be more intensive is because of the lab periods, which are four hours each week for both bio and chem. (To be honest, I have no idea how this compares to other schools.) Along with science and math courses, you take regular core classes like comp or philosophy. One main difference is that science majors don’t need to take a language, but if they want to take one they have to start junior year. I also know that science majors usually do their study abroad in the summer, because it’s next to impossible to do it during the regular school year.

…So that’s basically the extent of my knowledge. As to how good the program is, I’ve no idea. But, yes, if you do well here, you’ll get into med school.

I believe that Fordham is looking to construct a new science building sometime in the near future.
