Hey guys! I'm about to be a Senior in High School, and for the past 2 summers I've been given the opportunity to become involved in cancer research at my father's hospital. The study we've conducted has yielded a promising abstract, which I intend to submit to ASH (American Society of Hematology). We'll be notified at the beginning of October whether the study is worthy to be published in the scientific journal, Blood, or to take it a step farther and present it at the 56th annual ASH conference. I know early college applications have the deadline of November 1st, so if I am notified of acceptance, what exactly do I put on my app? Is it allowed to say that my work WILL be published, or does the app only allow you to say what has already been done? Would I have to instead say my research is "submitted to ASH" or "in press"? I'm confused exactly how to word this. Any advice is appreciated!

It is “in preparation”, “submitted”, and then “in press” if accepted. You can list out that in the additional information section at right after the essays.

Thanks @billcsho! I’m really hoping my abstract gets published and presented at the annual conference. Have you ever done anything like that? I’d love to hear your experiences!

I have published a lot of scientific reports as I got my Ph.D. 18 years ago. However, my first publication was from my senior year in college. Abstracts are usually not considered publication, but you may still list it as a scientific presentation. If you do submit it to a scientific journal as a full article, then it is considered a publication and you can mark the progress as “in preparation”, “submitted”, or “accepted/in press” before you can put down the issue and page numbers.
