Scolding of the arts

My parents want me to be something in the medical field but although I could do that I dont think i would be all the way happy. I really want to do something in the arts. I want to do photography and maybe writing books. I dont want to let them down though because they dont think a career in art will get me anywhere and that i wont make a decent living. im confused and i know i shouldnt live for others but it hurts me to hurt my parents and get disapproval. can someone give me advice? p.s. are there any great art schools or schools in general with creative writing and photography?

Double major, do both

do both med and photography? i didnt know you could do that? would i have to stay in school longer though? I use to think if you did pre-med you would have to keep only with science tracks and not be able to do anything else.

Premeds need to take a certain number of science courses, but beyond that they can study other things.

I think im going to do a double major. I never thought about it before. It seems like something I could handle doing. Thanks.

Just be aware that it is much easier to double major at some schools than others and this is something you need to research with respect to schools you are interested in. Most schools permit it; that is not the problem. The problem is that many schools (particularly cash strapped publics) don’t offer sufficient numbers of required courses (i.e., they fill up and you can’t get in, or there are scheduling conflicts) so that it may be difficult to fulfill the requirements of a single major in 4 years, let alone trying to schedule the requirements for two majors. Talk to current students doing what it is you want to do at each school you are thinking about. Doing college on the 6 year plan is expensive.

yeah, I think what i’ll do now while im high school is just get involved with photography learn the trades of the business and if some branch of it i want to go off into then ill pursue that. If not then ill go on to pre-med.
