Scooters and Folding Bikes Anyone?

Hi! I’ve been looking into biking at UCSD and all I seem to find is how they’re being stolen, not a happy prospect. I’m wondering if riding a folding bike and bringing it into class or riding a scooter (yes a childhood Razor) is common. Thank you!

When I went to UCSD (a couple of years ago now), I did see a scooter (like a Razor) occasionally, but it was definitely the exception, rather than the norm. It’s much more common to see bikes or skateboards. Scooters (in my experience) were fairly uncommon.

UCSD is hilly and some areas are not conducive to bikes and skateboarding.

^There’s really just one hill across the campus. It’s decently steep, but all the students I know who rode a bike or skateboard just walked up or down that one hill and rode their bike/skateboard the rest of the way. I knew some students who road their bike around it, going up/down the less steep parts, rather than the steeper sections. It’s not quite like you’re going up and down multiple steep hills to get across campus, which is what “hilly” implies to me.

My kid goes to a different So Cal college, and they are reasonably comment on her campus. I suspect others will be envious as you whiz by them. Also folds up easily to take into class

My kid’s bike was not stolen. But she found it was hard to use the bike so she have it away. Get a good lock. But both of my kids never had bike stolen, even in areas that are known for bikes stolen.

I meant the scooters in post #4, haven’t seen the bikes.

Thank guys for the help!

My son just took a really old bike his first year and never had a problem. He ended up using his skateboard and almost never used the bike. He said it was too inconvenient to have to park and relock it. I have seen Razor’s around campus.
