Score Importance in Selection

I had a 1360 in the SAT 1 but 1600 in the SAT subject test( I wrote Math 2 and physics) can I get into Stanford and MIT or some IVY LEAGUES

I’d say it is extremely difficult to get into an elite school without at least a 1400 on an SAT/30 ACT as mostly all stuents at these colleges have a 30+ ACT and many of those who don’t are probably athletes. It also depends on the rest of your application, you can have a 1600 SAT and still not get into elite schools if the rest of your application is weak.

It will be tough. Small differences in scores at the top end aren’t a big deal, but the score you have right now doesn’t really reach the prerequisite. MIT probably throws out your app instantly. Your chances are a tiny bit better at Cornell, but you’re still around the bottom 25%. Personally I wouldn’t bother applying.

Google “Common Data Set Collegename” and look at the middle 50% for each school. For an unhooked candidate to have a chance you should be near the 75% mark.

But taking into consideration some of my extra curricular activities won’t even give me a chance?

And also a perfect score on the SAT give me no chance?

  • sorry a perfect score on the Subject test too?

No

What if I had a 1400?

OP, I personally wouldn’t listen to @Laerai as they seem to think they know everything about admissions. If you want to apply to one, try it! What is your GPA? Also, Cornell seems more attainable than MIT and Stanford.

@SeinfeldFan1
Obviously, I have no idea what colleges are actually thinking. From a statistical perspective, OP is at a major disadvantage and that’s all I have to go off of. The chances are never zero, but in my opinion his time would be be better spent looking at schools one tier down from the Ivies.

@lordray5
1400 + strong ECs would make you a viable candidate at Cornell. MIT and Stanford are truly on a different level, imo.

@SeinfeldFan1 that is a good point, though I feel it is never bad to shoot for one schools most likely unattainable. Bu you do bring up an important point, that schools as selective as Ivies may need to be focused on less.

@SeinfeldFan1
GPA 3.98

Extracurricular includes
Winners of National Science and Math Quiz
Runner Up for Vodafone Icons a national competition too
Captain for Rugby team came 2nd place in the national championship
Interned at a machine for most of my vacations and can weld and build gears, shafts ,sprockets etc with the lathe machine

@ SeinfeldFan1 GPA 3.98 out of 4.0

Your chance of admittance is quite slim still, unfortunately.
