Assignment: Do people accomplish more when they are allowed to do things in their own way?

People are allowed space to tap into their own creativity and potential, when they do work individually. Individual work allows the task to be don without limitations and bickering that others bestow upon us. One example is in the novel, A Tale of Two Cities. Another example is Rosalind Franklin, who eventually discovered the double helix of DNA.

In the novel, A Tale of Two Cities, Sydney Carton, protagonist, first starts off as a partner with another attorney during the moments before the French Revolution. Carton was limited with all the cases by the opinion of his boss, who collaborated with Carton to solve the cases and did not allow Carton to fully express himself in his unorthodox ideas. Therefore, the two lost many cases in the beginning due to this restriction. As time drew closer to the French Revolution, innocent people began to be prosecuted by the mob ran government of the French. Carton had no choice but to not collaborate with his superiors, instead he took on the cases by himself with aid of liquor. Carton acquitted all of the defendants that were falsely prosecuted by the French government. Sydney Carton used his own methods, discarding the opinions of others, to acquit more people than he had ever before. The freedom and use of unorthodox methods to approach cases allowed Carton to save more innocent lives than did the collaboration with this superiors. The ability to operate in a free manner without the influence or obstruction of others yields the maximum result possible.

Throughout the decades and centuries of the history of scientific discoveries, it is almost always a single individual that discover a new phenomenon of the world. For example, the discovery of the double helix of the DNA first began cooperation between Watson, Crick, Franklin, and Pauling. However, each scientist differ from one another. It was when these scientists were alone did they begin to start to speculate about the DNA structure on similar grounds, leading to the discovery of the double helix. It first started with Rosalind Franklin, who decided to disregard her colleagues and examine the x-ray crystallography of DNA, which led her to make the world discovery of the 3D shape of the DNA. Franklin's isolation allowed herself to not worry about defending her theory amongst her colleagues, giving her more time to focus and discover the nature of the DNA. Going in our separate ways allows us to develop our own thoughts and creativity without the scrutiny of others, which allows us to pursue our thoughts even further.

When we are free to chose the way we implement things, we receive more opportunity to achieve greater things. Limitations from our peers, like in Carton's case, or the disagreements from colleagues, like in Franklin's case, won't be our downfall that constricts our own achievements and creativity, if we are free to choose and do as we please.
