Score my son?

My son is a sophomore at a highly competitive Catholic high school. He takes a full load, strong in science and math. He’ll have several APs by the time he graduates - Calc, Stats, Bio or Chem, Physics. Lots of STEM but also art and some computer science and languages (and religion - no way around that!). Right now, he’s at a 3.2 but he’ll probably pull it up to a 3.5 - pretty good, given his higher level AP and honors classes. We plan to do lots of SAT prep. He runs track, snowboards, is active in some clubs and volunteers at his grandma’s nursing home.

He’d be a fourth generation legacy - my grandfather, my dad, and me. We’re not rich, but I’ve been as active as I can in service and donations, but it’s not much. No buildings named after us!

He’d likely apply ED to Ag to study bioscience/pre-med, and wants to do ROTC. He works each summer, nothing fancy, either a farm hand at a local farm or clerking at the local grocery store.

What would you add to help boost his chances? Assume excellent essays, strong SATs.

He needs to get his GPA up…upward trend will help (and he has time since sophomore year just started). Aim for 3.8 GPA/1500+ SAT score. Working on the farm is good and absolutely apply ED to get any bump from being a legacy.

It’s not as much of GPA, but more of his ranking. To get into Cornell, one should be at top 10%. My kid didn’t have 1500+ SAT score and still got into Cornell ED. She was top 1% of her class.
Just a note, most students who get into Cornell tend to take most rigorous courses in high school and many of them have 3.8+ UW GPA.
Your kid has 2 more years to bring up his GPA. As mentioned by @momofsenior1, AOs like upward trend.
