can someone briefly explain to me how the score reports work? do i have to send them to each college i apply for or do i just say what i got and then send them after being granted admission? or does that depend on the school? these confuse me a little bit so if someone could clear that up would be appreciated
Many schools allow you to self-report on the application and will only require you to send them officially if you are planning to enroll. Check the admissions website for each school to better understand their policy. While sending scores officially to everyone is the simplest approach, it’s also the most expensive.
Colleges vary:
- Some require officlal scores sent from the testing agency as a requirement to be considered for admission.
- Some deem scores provided on your high school transcript to be offical scores for the purpose of determining admission and thus you can have your high school provide that transcript rather than send scores from the testing agency if you are in a high school that puts your scores on the transcript (many do).
- Some allow you to self-report your test scores in the application for admission as an alternative to providing offcial scores and then you do not have to provide offical scores until after you are admitted (and some of those, such as Stanford, accept scores on your high school transcript as the official scores after you are admitted).
- You then also have a group of colleges that do not even require test scores to determine admission but you can submit scores fror consideration if you desire and how they are to be submitted varies in the same way as the groups in 1 to 3 above.
Colleges usually tell you on their sites exactly what is required.
