sending scores

this is probably a really dumb question, but...

what exactly is the deal with sending official SAT scores? do all schools require that you send an official report, in addition to what you self-report? when do you send them, when applying or after you've been accepted or what? how long do they take to get there? do you do this all through collegeboard.com?

thanks

Most schools ask for them with your application or shortly after. Depending on the school you apply for, they may accept them just written on your application while others will request them directly from CollegeBoard.

cool. thanks.

it looks like all of my scores require an official report. how long before their application deadlines should I send the scores through collegeboard? I am applying EA (nov 1); should I have them sent now or what?

Yeah, have them sent now unless you're still planning on taking more this fall. It doesn't matter if they get there before your application. In fact many students' scores arrive before their applications because they use the option to send 4 scores free when they take their exams. Some high schools also transcribe the scores on your official transcript, but even so colleges will very often want an official score report sent directly from the CollegeBoard. You can do it from the collegeboard website.
