scores Eng:26, Math:35 Read:18 Sci:34 Comp:28 Help plz

can someone help me boost my english and reading scores.
I am really good in english, but most of them are stupid mistakes and sometimes I go blind. I don't know why.

and with reading I am just dumb.
1. I can't read that fast. I try to just do 3 passage and that is tough for me.
2. I came to America in 8th grade
3. I don't read a lot. You might ask why?. I didn't read a lot in the schools in India because we don't get novels nor do we have library. Instead, I did a lot of math.
4. I am just trying for a 25 in the reading.
5. I took the ACT 4 times all of them had a reading of 18-20

English: 26 BOOOOOOOO
Math: 35 Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reading: 18 BOOOOOOO
Science 34 Yeah!!!!!!!!!

I have all this books
1. Red Book
2. PR crack
3. PR 1296
4 Kaplan (something)
5 Kaplan Classroom book (Got it by taking classes in Kaplan)
6.Mcgraw Hill 10 test
7.Mcgraw Hill 8 test book (New)
8 Mcgraw Hill English and Reading
9 Barron's 2008

If u guyz want some tactics in math and science here.

Math: Do the first 40questions in about 25-30mins that's it. And try practice and learn the formula and know how to use the calculator properly(very very useful weapon)

Science: Don't read the passage, instead, go to the question right away.

Someone plz help in English and Reading
And I don't want to take the SAT.

My Goal: Compsite:30+ 30 is fine too. I will be happy with a score with the 3 in the front.

I finished about 75% of the books in your list. ( all but Kaplan)

I have a 34 comp, with higher scores in Reading and English. In your situation, I would say that English is the most coach-able section, because all you do is memorize the rules. I don’t know what else to say. If you haven’t read a lot in India, and are getting an 18 on Reading, I wouldn’t know how to help lol. Try to read an interesting novel. Maybe you would like Salman Rushdie?

Well, go through those books if you haven’t already and do all of the reading passages. Practice is what improves your score. That is the only problem with other countries, they may be ridiculous at math, but the literary analysis suffers…

You could take the TOFEL to explain that English isn’t your first language.

Ok, if you are REALLY want to work hard and get a 30, study through the Princeton review book and get your English to about a 33.

Even if you only did this, and you still got unlucky on the reading with an 18 instead of a 20, your score would be exactly 30.

I have no doubt in my mind that you can do this. In fact, I even feel that you will eventually laugh at the English section, like you probably do at math and science.

Reading, however, is something that will always be a weakness to you, sorry. You would literally need at least ten more years of reading to get a better score. I know how the whole foreign thing can be rough.'

You may want to consider studying on the reading just a little bit. One of my foreign buddies was in the same situation, except slightly worse looking:

English: 33
Math:36
Reading:20
Science: 36

He studied a bit, and pulled his reading up to a 23. He said that he thought the passages were boring, but he said that he just had to have really good confidence and tell himself he could score really high.

hope this helps :)

thank you very much for ur replies and I am going to take the test on Sept 12 and maybe oct too.

I just have another question
if I get Eng: 31, Math: 35 Sci:34 Read:18 That would be 30 but what would colleges think about me if I have that low reading score.

Well, it really depends on how prestigious the college is.

i will be applying for university of michigan, michigan state, wayne state. but i am also applying for medstart in wayne state which very competive becausebthe program save me a seat in wayne state`s med school and full scholarship for the 4 year undergrad

Mmm…I ASSUME it won’t be a problem. At least not at those schools.

hey don’t worry. colleges just look at your composite. U of M usually needs around a 30 along with at least a 3.8 GPA. MSU - you will get into for sure. But Medstart at wayne, I am telling you that you won’t get in. that medstart program is extremely competitive. My cousin was the last one picked and he had a 4.0, valedictorian, tons of EC’s, and like a 33 ACT.

“colleges just look at your composite.”

Not true for a lot of schools, but it is true for the schools the OP mentioned.

and also, btw, don’t tell ppl they have no chance at places…it’s pretty rude. Just say that based off past experiences you don’t like his chances.

I know medstart is very competive, but I know three friend who applied for wayne state and got a full ride for 4 years. I do have a good GPA of 3.93(top 20) and I have a lot EC’s too.

about 300 Volunteer Hours in Hurley Medical Center, Flint, MI(Hospital)-very nice p

see, K-KATT?

for all you knew, he had unbelievable ECs no college could turn down. you shouldn’t make assumptions without more info
