Scores

When do we get the scores for the psat?

The PSAT score reports are sent to the school and not to the student. It is not accessible online until after you get the score report from your school and use the access code provided on it. The school usually receives the scores in the first half of December, but it varies by school in how/when they choose to provide the scores to students.

Our high school gathers the students that took the test in the auditorium and hands the score reports out to the students, and they also go over what the scores mean and what to do next testing wise for college. This happens the week prior to Christmas vacation. Many others have reported previously here on CC that their schools wait until after the holidays in January to provide scores to students. The fact that some schools wait that long is unfortunate and stressful, especially to those anxiously waiting to see if they got a high enough score to hopefully be in the running for National Merit.

The bottom line is every school is different in how they handle distributing scores, but right before the holidays or right after the holidays is when it happens for most students. Homeschoolers get them first, and if they mention on CC that they received them - probably the schools have as well.

Your school will get your score around the first week of Dec…however, some schools wait until after Xmas break to hand them out.

D’s school waited until early February to tell the kids!! That was a long wait.

My D’s also did not get their scores until early February last year which was an anomaly for them. Normally they did receive them early December. We were told, and I actually believe them, that the school did not receive the scores until late January even though everybody else seemed to receive them at the normal time in December.

They have changed this year. If you gave them an email address they will send your scores to that email address about two month after your test date so you don’t have to wait for the school to give you the paper copy.

@3scoutsmom What great news for the juniors who took the PSAT earlier this month! In this high tech age, it is about time that they streamlined the process and made scores available online in a more timely fashion!

Perhaps the National Merit Scholarship Corporation will work on developing online notification for NMSF in September and NMF in February as well so EVERYONE can know their status at the same time! Less waiting, less stress, less phone calls to NMSC, less friction between parents/students and their GCs and schools…it would be beneficial all the way around!

But…it would also mean there would be less stories here on CC about stalking mailmen, etc. during the “wait” and I have enjoyed those pieces of humor throughout the waiting process (thanks @GoAskDad and other parents on the Unofficial 2015 National Merit Semifinalist thread…which I read through while prior to and during the waiting game for 2016 NMSF notification).
