Scottish lad looking for advice

Hi everyone!

sure there are numerous posts every day so il make this short and sweet

SATCR:690
Maths-770
Writing- 660 (arrgh annoying as in my last shot i got 700!)

Total- 2120

SAT2 Maths- 700
SAT2 Chemistry- 730
SAT2 Biology- 660

terrible SAT2s i know but i havnt done Maths in a year and havnt done Chemistry and Biology in 2 and 3 years respectively!

(im taking World history in a weeks time so hopefully il get a 700) any idea what i should do for my one remaining SAT date in january- any thoughts welcome

Scottish Highers

English - A
Maths - A
Chemistry - A
Economics - A
Politics - A

Scottish Advanced Highers (considered equal or more than A levels- oxford/cambridge considers them harder)

Economics- B
Politics - A
Philosophy - A

So thats basically it!- im aiming high- perhaps too high many of you will probably say HYP, most of the IVYs, Stanford, NYU, Berkely...

In terms of Extra currics im pritty good, in 4 sports teams at my final year of school....hopefully sending in a tape of me playing soccer to the relative sports departments- as i hear if they think you are good enough it iwll improve chances- any advice on this will also be appreciated.

Also last point- i hear many unis take A levels instead of SAT2....is it worth my phoning up and seeing it they will think of my Advanced highers in the same way?

Thanks again for all your comments- they will all be carefully considered and appreciated

PS. just to let you know i applied last year with a 1950 SAT and the same SAT2s and only got into NYU, UCLA, and berkely (although i couldnt go due to family reasons)

PPS. haha sorry so much for a small post- but this year im doing a gap year working at PriceWaterhouseCoopers- dont know how famous that is in the US so i dont know whether it will help my app.

Thanks!

What are your extracurriculars?

represent school at rugby (captian), football (vice captain), hockey, tennis and cricket
represented clubs at rugby and football (thats soccer by the way not american football! haha)

UK Mathematical challenge gold medal and 2 silvers

Chess champion record 3 years running

Cadets for 4 years- Corporal status- given command of my own section at competition

School peer support member- helping disabled children that go to the school with learning difficulties

Teach Bengali on Sundays

Teach arabic on Saterday (both voluntary)

emmmm that doesnt sound like much does it! em im sure there was more i put in my last years app but i cant seem to remember!- been a year since iv left school! but when if i remember il edit it in!

Cheers!

PriceWaterhouseCoopers is pretty famous everywhere - make sure you let colleges know you work there.

ok thanks very much!

can i just ask if anyone thinks i should retake the SAT1 test again- this would be for hte 4th time- does that look bad?

Also, if i dnt take the SAT again i will probably take the world history for the first time but as i have an oxford interview the week after i am not 100% fully prepared for it..in which case i will probably retake the world history in January if i get a sub700 score- does this look bad retaking a subject test?

Finally, with SAT1 scores over several tests...do they tkae the best score in each section ie best score for MAths, best score for reading etc etc....or is it just as a best test altogether?

seriously all opinoins welcome!

Cheers

Shahadat

You look good, mate. Do you need fin aid?

i do actually

Yes, most colleges superscore, i.e. they take the best score of each section. And if I were you, I wouldn't take the SAT1 again.

i see...what about taking subject tests twice?
