Hello, all!
I am currently a freshman in USC’s Screenwriting program. I sort of like it, but not enough to stick with it for the rest of my time in college.
I’ll be taking at least one class in Dornsife’s Art History major next semester to see how I like it compared with Screenwriting, and I was wondering if any of you had any thoughts/advice regarding Art History at USC.
I know I haven’t been in college very long, but I trust my intuition on this, and I really think that Screenwriting may not be for me.
I also have my qualms about USC at large, although that could be a whole other thread – so if anyone knows any good Art History programs at other colleges (preferably in California) that I should look into, I’d love to hear about them!
Thank you!
Hi,
I’m a sophomore majoring in art history and fine art (at Roski). The professors I have met so far are all knowledgable for their feel and care about teaching. It does vary from class to class in terms of the amount of memorization and area of focus.
The art history department here is not large, and so there are not so many course offerings compare to schools like UCLA. However, the department is doing quite a lot of activities both for engaging student with the faculty and academic conferences. The good part about USC is the flexibility to do more than one majors, or to just take classes across different schools. If you know your areas of interest and like interdisciplinary study, USC is a good place to be. In many schools, taking classes outside of ones college is very difficult.

If you have varied interests it is possible to design one’s own major at SC. This can be done after consultation with your academic counselor. Is it possible to sit in on some classes in other fields?
Meet with your academic counselor. With so many majors at SC there is still time to explore.
