I go to a really competitive public school (a top 10 school in the state), and there's massive grade deflation in many of the AP classes which I'm taking/have taken. For example, no one in my AP chem class ended up with an A. In addition, my AP English teacher even said, "Don't expect to get an A in this class" on the first day of school, and surely enough, only 1-2 people have As. So basically, most of my AP classes severely impact my GPA. How will colleges be able to know how much grade deflation occurs, especially since my HS doesn't report rank? Also, how will colleges compare my HS with other easier ones? Thanks in advance.

It’s likely that adcoms at in-state schools are aware of the school and its practices. It may be tougher if you’re applying at schools that know nothing about your HS.

Also, if all students are taking tough courses… class rank should help clarify the situation.

op said his school doesn’t rank.

Even if your school doesn’t rank, the write-up the college counselor does should theoretically put things into perspective. If you’re an exceptionally good student, the counselor’s going to note that.
