So this is my score ( first attempt)

Critical Reading 600
Math 540
Writing 570
Essay 7
Total : 1710

I'm so upset right now.I took around 5-6 practice tests and got around 2000-2050 in all of them.I dunno what happened.I screwed up the essay, and two math sections.I thought I did CR well but..

The score that I'm aiming for is 2000+
I'm thinking of taking the help of Online tutors/prep places.Do you guys recommend any?
Is a 300-400 point gain possible?

Maybe it’s test anxiety. Also, I’ve come to the realization that the BB practice tests aren’t a good indicator of my actual score.

I don’t know about any online prep sessions except College Board’s Online Program which gives you access to 10 new official tests and a lot of quizzes.

Don’t worry, take the test another time and you’ll almost instantaneously feel better :)

Also, a 300-400 point increase is possible. Officially though, as far as I remember, CB said that on an average, students taking the test a second time increase their score by 30 points and students taking the test a third time on an average decrease their score by 8 points. But those are just average statistics I increased my score by 350 points.

Thanks for the reply Tizil.

I think classes to help me learn things like error types in error spotting and quick ways to solve math would help me.Also essays too.I was almost blank when the essay section began.

I will check out the CB tests.thanks for the suggestion :)

Just out of curiousity, what was your score before the 350 increase? :)

Well, I did pretty bad too. I studied seriously for 3 weeks before the test, writing a practice test every 2 days, and working on drills from various books the other days. I scored an 1820.
540 CR
690 M
590 WR

anvesh, same story here.
i got a 1800
680M 510CR AND 610W.
i expected ATLEAST a 2000+ .
but then i rose from 1400(end of last year) to 1800(may-SAT). i think its a good improvement anyway, right?
@suddhu. dont lost hope. it happens sometimes. i knew already that i screwed the CR section, but expected a 750ish in M :\ waiting for the detailed report.

I had strongly suggest not to obsess over SAT scores. They are not measure of your intelligence and colleges know that. Even though, Internationals are expected to have good scores with excellent high school record. However, it is a common fact that if you have a score of 2000+ you will not be rejected for your SAT scores. SAT scores determine your application only to a certain extent, after the initial round, all rests on the subjective parts of your application. For those who are retaking the SAT, I would suggest the ACT-it is in September, so you can give it a try before you take the SAT again in October. :)

Thanks for the replies

@Fallparent No,I did 3 previous papers section by section without a time limit and use kaplan and barrons books too.

@rew202 Congrats on your increase,Hope I can do that well :)

@Mrinal2207 Thanks,I’ll checkk out the ACT too…

I’m taking the June sat.So it is like a week away.I took another practice on collegeboard’s website and got a 1900.I thought I did my essay well but got only 3/6.
How do you guys suggest I prepare within this week for the june sat

Practise practise practise.
Take timed tests.

Also, i quite disagree with Mrinal.
The SAT for internationals does matter for the fact that it is like the qualifying factor. For US nationals it might be more or less important if other parts of the application are good, but as for a international, one has to get atleast above a 2100 to get a good uni and be ‘considered’ for the ivys. I havent heard of any indian getting into HYP,UCs,MIT with a 2000 score even if they had stellar ECs and everything. So getting a good score in SATs gets you one step closer.

@Suddu
Take timed simulated tests, in the sense that get up at 7 in the morning and do the test exactly how the real thing would Be. It makes a huge difF, especially for those who are used to Sleeping late, like me.
