SCS versus MCS

Does it make any sense for a math/CS candidate to apply to both SCS and MCS? What are the transfer options like? Can you apply to SCS ED, and then, if deferred, apply to both SCS and MCS RD?

i’m not sure about the application semantics, but there is a great deal of overlap (initially) between the CS and math curricula. I only applied to scs when i was admitted (RD '09), but basically if you get into SCS you can transfer to MCS no questions asked, and if you get into MCS and do well in 21-127 and whatever intro programming you take then you should have no trouble transferring into SCS. hope that helps

Thanks, bc09. Mine has a pile of math and cs credits already. So, sounds as if applying for both should help the chances. First choice would be SCS but the admissions numbers are not encouraging.
