Yes, I think you’re right that outdoor dining is not allowed at the moment, but it was possible last quarter. Hopefully things will be more “normal” this Fall, but time will tell. Either way, the kids are finding ways to connect, make friends, study and have a college experience–even if it’s not the college experience we expected or planned for.
Has anyone else received their package in the mail yet from Santa Clara? I live in California and I still have not received anything yet.
I live in AZ and still haven’t received it.
I’ll tell ya what. The USPS stinks right now. All mail has slowed down. There’s an article in news about folks receiving they’re Xmas gifts in January.
We received the offer letter from Santa Clara couple weeks back. We are from California too.
that’s weird that I haven’t gotten mine then, I already accepted my offer of admission but I just wanted to receive the letter physically. Guess ill just have to wait a bit longer then.
S’ came to us in So Cal all chewed up and about 1.5 weeks ago.
Today 1/19 we finally received the admission package.
hopefully i get mine soon.
Why is she off campus and not remote learning from home? What’s the immediate neighborhood like surrounding the school?
She really wanted to begin her college experience and integrate into the SCU community. She lived in a short-term studio for Fall quarter, took classes remotely, met other students and joined a sorority (they had virtual rush). She is now renting an apartment with several girls from her sorority for the remainder of the year. It has been a really positive experience for her.
As for your question about the neighborhood surrounding the school, it’s mostly residential with a few nearby eateries and coffee shops. She was a little worried about the absence of a “college town” feel, but it hasn’t been an issue at all. The immediate area has lots of off-campus student housing and a restaurant hangout called The Hut (with outdoor seating but it’s been closed off and on due to COVID restrictions) which is popular with students. Within a short distance, there’s a nice outdoor shopping area with restaurants called Santana Row. My sense, though, is that most of the action (under normal circumstances) is happening on or near campus. That said, she has gone to San Francisco, Santa Cruz and has done some hiking, so I think there’s plenty to do if you are willing to take the CalTrain or if you can Uber/drive.
I just read this whole thread. Our daughter is a 2010 SCU grad. She loved it there. Lived two years on campus and two off campus. The off campus was right across the street from the campus on the back side…on a cul de sac that had maybe four other houses…all students. She paid $800 a month sharing a bedroom in a house with 7 people total.
My kid never complained about the area, or a shortage of things to do.
The school was the perfect fit for our kid. After undergrad, she went into the Peace Corps. SCU has had a lot of PCVs amongst its grads. At the time, the health center even had dedicated times for PC physicals.
Some of you inquired about premed. Our daughter is a doctor but applied as a non-traditional student. Her undergrad degree was in bioengineering and biology. But she had friends who applied right out of undergrad, and felt they got excellent advising and a help. I don’t know the details!
Congratulations to those who got accepted and for those still waiting.
It was a pricey option but we had budgeted for it, and honestly felt it was totally worth it.
Hi! Does anyones know when ED2 decisions have come out in the past? Or if SCU is planning on releasing decisions later than expected because they extended their application deadlines?
I was also wondering if anyone knows when ED2 decisions come out and if anyone else still has not received their acceptance packet in the mail.
So good to hear your comments. Our son is considering bioengineering and wants to pursue med school immediately after.
I just got an email with the header “From deferred to accepted!” For a second, I thought I got in and I freaked out and burst with tears, but then I read the email itself and it just explained how many SCU students get accepted from the deferment and how regular decision is going to come out soon lmao. Did any other deferred student who opted for consideration get the email?
That sucks, I haven’t heard of anybody else getting an email like that. But good luck! I hope you get in!
The exact header was “From deferred to accepted! Sasha’s story.” It goes on to say “If you’ve been deferred from a college, it can be disappointing to wait longer for a final decision. But a deferment isn’t nexxessarily a bad thing! Sometimes we aren’t quite ready to make a final decision and would like the opportunity to review your application again in the Regular Decision pool.” Then in the bottom it shows a video of this student ambassabor who goes in-depth into the deferral proccess and how she was affected personally. I found it to be odd, like why would they send this? Now I find it even weirder if not a lot of students are getting this email. I don’t know anyone who applied to SCU, let alone got deferred, so if you or anyone can dig a bit deeper and see what’s going on with this I would appreciate it.
Did anyone get an interview for the Johnson scholar program? My DD got selected as a semifinalist and got an invitation today for the finalist interview.
Yes same. I think the article/taped response is the semi finalist portion then they choose the finalist round. Should be interesting. Good luck
