Zetesis, I had the feeling you would be the person to reply!

So the day was gorgeous, sunny, 75 degrees by late morning. Also, we live in Los Gatos, which is very close by to SCU, so no travel involved for us, and I went to SCU, graduated in 1981, so I know the campus well.

Overall, I was very pleased with the information that we gathered throughout the day. My son is interested in pre-med, so he and my husband attended a session with great inside info for helping students get in to medical school. I attended a session on research being done on exercise and psychology. What was emphasized throughout all the sessions was that there are no TAs for any classes, professors are totally accessible, and research opportunities abound for those that are interested, starting as early as freshman year.

We had lunch with Carol Wenz of the Honors Program, who is wonderful. She randomly sat with us, and we had the opportunity to ask her a number of questions on the new Core Curriculum, requirements of Honors students and how the two work together. My son also received information as to which AP courses would count in terms of not having to take a course at SCU. For example, even if he aces AP Bio, he still has to take Biology at SCU, but Calculus will excuse him from a lower Math sequence- same with AP French.

I enjoyed the fact that there were professors around, at lunch and just walking around campus, waiting to be asked a question. My son is going to meet with Dr. Craig Stephens this week, while he is on Spring Break, to see about doing research with him and check out his lab, etc. Dr. Stephens does biotech research, which my son loves.

Santa Clara had a high number of excellent applicants this year. The students that we met were very impressive for the most part, and very friendly. I think my son is sold- he loves the idea of small classes and lots of interaction with professors.
