SDSU Appeals 2019

starting a SDSU appeal forum for class of 2023 because I haven’t seen any on CC yet! Share your appeal process below and the basis of your appeal

Haven’t seen an active appeal forum for SDSU this year. Interesting how no one has posted here yet?

March 4: I dropped my appeal package in the outgoing mailbox.
March 14: Received the official email from SDSU that they received all my stuff (online transcripts included, etc.)
From Riverside, CA if that helps.

As of now, no word on my decision yet. I called the office a couple days ago to ask about the status of my appeal, and the woman on the phone told me that it was “still under review”.

I heard that they don’t even make decisions until after May 1, which is the deadline to commit for freshman students who were offered admission. Makes sense, because after that the Office of Admissions has an actual number of students who will be attending and will know how many spots they have left to squeeze in some lucky waitlisted students and appeal applicants.

@postyisbae and @iloveraccoons. It would also be helpful if you stated the basis for your appeal for other posters. You do not have to go into great detail, but it can be helpful for future CC readers to know if certain circumstances will make a successful or unsuccessful appeal basis.

Hello, I am also submitting an appeal to San Diego State, I am a California transfer student. I am a Business major with an emphasis in financial services. I am getting my associates degree for transfer in business admin which SDSU accepts for their financial services emphasis and I have a 3.7 GPA, I still got denied and I sent in my appeal last month and they are in progress viewing it right now. Lets all hope for the best for everyone in this forum.

General Business Transfer. I have lived in SD for over a year now but continued taking classes online at my original college in Oregon. This was because they were going to continue offering me in state tuition. In addition to my credits being out of state, they are quarter credits. My GPA I believe is around a 3.0 to 3.1. I had switched majors 3 years ago I first started taking classes around 7 years ago. I wasn’t quite ready and was going into an intense health science major while working full time. Then on top of that, taking online math classes recently has been a struggle. Especially when the resources to help you succeed through those challenges mostly are out of state. I could not afford the out of state tuition for the local community colleges at the time. Wont have my Oregon transfer degree done by the spring, however after using the TAP planner my Golden Four and 60+ semester transferable units will be complete.
Mailed appeal 4-7-19
Received email from SDSU stating they received the required paperwork and will review on April 17.
No word back yet.

Is it true that they give us the results after May?

@Reionic: Appeal decisions can go into July depending upon the situation.

I’m actually one of the uncommon transfer applicants.

  • I’m from UCR.
  • Business Administration Major
  • GPA, definitely not proud of it. Maintained a 3.0 up until Fall quarter 2018. Dropped drastically, which I’ve explained why in my appeal letter.
^^ but this is only one of many points I’ve included in my appeal.

Why would I like to transfer?

  • Stellar business program (Fowler)
  • More exposure to business opportunities.
  • Expenses. ( + I have relatives whom I may live with at San Diego; cutting out the costs of housing)

I’m aware that since I already attend a 4-year, my chances are especially slim for this whole appeal process, but I’ll never know unless I try. Honestly my initial rejection did not pose as a surprise to me for this very reason, amongst other things.

Also, just yesterday I met someone in my lab who got accepted into SDSU— so it’s not entirely impossible.

Update, kinda:
It has passed the 8 week mark since my appeal package was received by SDSU. Called the office today and as of now it is still under review. I asked when to expect my decision and was told about mid to late June.

My 8 week mark has passed as well. My appeal is regarding the fact that I applied to the wrong psychology major (there’s three) and was missing requirements and pre reqs for the psych I applied to. The one I was supposed to apply to I have all classes and pre reqs completed. 3.9 GPA and AAT in Psychology.

I got my appeal email back from SDSU today. They said there campus didn’t have enough room and couldn’t take me in. I applied as an art media major and they didn’t take me. Not sure if anyone else has heard back but I wrote a really good appeal with doctor notes and confirmations. If anyone else heard back too let me know!

Hi everyone! New on this thread. I submitted my appeal on April 26th. It’s exactly within that 30 day period. I haven’t heard back through email at all. I also recently moved so I’m not sure if they sent a letter to my last address. Should I be concerned? Or does anyone know when I should be hearing back. I think I will just call but I am a bit nervous.

does the status update on the portal at all or is it just by mail?

As far as I know it only updates if you got accepted based off the appeal and the denial letter is what comes in the mail

The admissions team finally reached out. I was told to submit my official transcripts including the spring 2019 grades. I’ll be sending these, not sure what to expect honestly but good luck to everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster. My daughter was accepted to SDSU last week on appeal. For those of you still waiting, keep the faith. I think the odds may be better on appeal (for qualified candidates) than they let on. They do not release appeals data anywhere that I can see, I find that interesting given all the other data they quantify and release annually. Details: We rec’d notification by email from the admissions team. The portal was updated when we logged on. Previously it had not changed but we hadn’t checked recently. Good luck to all who are waiting!

On May 13, my nephew was admitted to SDSU off of an appeal. Everyone discouraged him including his HS counselor, but he had a compelling reason and we submitted it despite what anyone advised. He was never emailed or sent anything official, his portal status simply changed and he called admissions the day he noticed it changed (he checked it daily) and the following day he was able to sign up for housing etc through the portal.

@Baconbaby congrats to your daughter! may I ask the stats and basis of the appeal?

@soleva we searched for SDSU’s specific policy on how they review appeals but could not find it. We did find a very specific policy for CSUCI appeals and tailored our SDSU appeal on the CSUCI standards assuming the SDSU ones were likely similar. Here is the link to the CSUCI policy on appeals:

@Baconbaby oh I meant like what she wrote her appeal about and her GPA, local or nonlocal, etc
