SDSU Class of 2022 Applicant Thread

This is almost comical! It sounds like a typical state government operation!

Good luck to everyone with all the issues. Hopefully all the hassle will be worth it.

Hi everyone, current sophomore Nursing student here. I see a few people have been having issues related to the wording of a class so I thought I’d share my story. I was denied admission February 2016 with a very high EI and instantly called admissions asking what happened. After insisting they “investigate” my case, they finally discovered that my transcript had no record of a simple biology course! My school called it “integrative science,” but it was indeed biology and the only option offered to us. The admissions councilor said unfortunately the only thing I could do is appeal, and even thought it wasn’t my fault and my stats were definitely high enough to be accepted, I couldn’t be guaranteed admission until they confirmed that enough people did not accept their admission because of the program cap. I had no choice but to put down a deposit elsewhere because deadlines were approaching. I sent in an awesome package of “proof” that integrated science was indeed biology which included the official description of the class, a letter from my bio teacher, and even a letter from my school’s Principal testifying on my behalf. I FINALLY got accepted that June. I hope this helps anyone who is going through something similar! I also want to add that there was one admissions councilor who helped me thoughout my entire appeal process from the day I got denied to the day I finally got accepted. She was absolutely amazing and I will always be grateful for her

@pekkla, my son had the same thing happen (you can read my previous post for more info, but it is still not worked out).

This is for the birds. Phone only holds for about 8 min then disconnects you. Been trying for an hour now.

Lots of room for improvement here. Thanks for sharing your success story @futurenurse717 Nursing is my D’s intended major. It sounds like a great program.

@maxbrett1 when?

@pickedginger My D corrected her app yesterday to insert English 1A/1B § and submitted it. I may try today to see if its acceptable. Apparently "Frsh Lang and Comp § wasn’t clear enough to communicate to SDSU that she had a year of Freshman English. oy! Also, if anyone is having trouble getting through, I recommend using the OOS phone number.

When??

When did you hear ??

I know of at least one transfer student that was accepted yesterday so guessing they are a transfer student based on the boards they have posted on.

My Admission Status Date changed to 2/27/18. Is this a bad thing because my actual status still says pending?

@lavie201 it’s not a bad thing, it just means your application is being reviewed and your decision will probably be out soon

Mine says Dec 2nd and it’s still pending. I’m getting really anxious

Hi, all - just wanted to update my son’s situation in case it is helpful to anyone else who is similarly situated. He had been notified by SDSU that he did not meet the admissions requirements because supposedly he did not have enough English classes or foreign language classes, even though he has taken advanced/Honors/AP English for 4 years and has taken Spanish all 4 years. He is coming from a public CA high school, so it was really weird that the classes were apparently not recognized.

It turns out a significant hang up is that he entered “semester” instead of “full year” for the term type of the classes. I guess he was thinking they were asking what grading period the classes had. Anyway, I think it is worked out for admissions purposes (meaning hopefully he won’t get rejected outright due to this error), but it seems probable that he would have gotten early admission based on his stats if this error had not been made.

Good luck to all waiting to hear!

@pickledginger thanks for the feedback. Now I’m paranoid again since our issue was the name of a class yet my son also used semester as term type and that never errored out for him. So now I’m wondering if they even know what they are talking about in that office and if we can trust that these applications are even correct. What a hot mess this year is for SDSU. Funny thing is that CSUF already accepted him and never had an issue with it. So each school is looking at the classes differently.

@pickledginger same situation for my D. She entered semester for her art class instead of full year. It was an oversight on her part but unfortunate that it was not caught sooner. I am sure she would have been accepted early and prob would have applied to Honors college.

@Marcie123, it is very confusing. I am pretty sure that my son entered “semester” for all of his classes, thinking they were asking how often grades were issued rather than how long the classes lasted, but these two subjects (English and FL) were the only ones flagged . . . my son only applied to one other CSU (Cal Poly), but has not received any notifications from Cal Poly that there is a problem. My son, too, would have applied to the Honors College if he had been admitted early, but he just wasn’t up for another long essay when he didn’t get early admitted.

@Bean981, hope it all works out! I wish the students could just upload a transcript like they can for some other applications.
