Thanks. Few more days and we’ll get to see how the CSU application looks like.
The DE that you mentioned is Dual Enrollment?
@mmrl8794: Yes, DE= Dual Enrollment.
HS course rigor has always been an important consideration in the CSU admission process.
@mmrl8794: Also wanted to add that SDSU has college prep programs for local HS students such as Compact for Success and College Avenue Compact which would give these SD HS students an advantage or guarantee admission if they meet the program requirements and succeed.
Just Submitted my Application!
CSU GPA: 3.75, WGPA: 3.91
Major: Kinesiology - Fitness Specialist
ACT: 31 - I Know it’s only for class placement
If you want to know more, please just ask! I am so excited for this year!
Question on the app
So, I’ve listed every class I’ve taken and categorized most of them as an “A-G.” I’m at “25.5 years” of coursework on my app. 24.5 of those years are letter grades of A’s and one year is a B. I’ve technically taken 16 Honors/AP classes (32 semesters) but obviously can only get 8 semesters of H/AP credit on my app. So…my question is as I entered more classes with letter grades of A’s, my GPA goes down. -Do they take all that into account when looking over apps? If I only listed 15 A-G courses I cap out at 4.4 but listing 10 more “A’s” has watered down my GPA to 4.25 on the app.
I appreciate your help and advice!
@NurseNat:
All schools will look at your course rigor, specific grades in the courses and not just go by your calculated GPA only.
Also according to the new guidelines since the CSU’s have gone test blind, they will consider the # of a-g courses beyond the minimum 15 required as part of their admissions review which is a benefit for you. You are a competitive applicant so best of luck.
Thank you for your help! I submitted my app yesterday!!
Final Breakdown:
CSU gpa: 4.27
25.5 years of coursework
5 Honors Classes
4 AP Classes
6 City College Courses
A/A+ in Biology, Chem, Anatomy
A/A+ in all Math courses
Really hoping I get in to the BSN program!! I know it’s super competitive ~ Now, the wait begins!!
@Gumbymom
I have a 3.8 college prep GPA
I want to go into nursing however I know the nursing program is out of reach so I wanted to do another major somewhat close to nursing and then go to nursing school after college. Is there any majors like kinesiology or something you think there is a chance I could get into? Do not be afraid to be brutally honest, Thanks!
I have also taken 5 AP classes
@BUCKY12345: just so I understand your question, your goal is Nursing and you want to get your 4 year Bachelor’s degree from SDSU and then do a post Bacc Nursing program?
Are you in the local admission area?
If my assumption is correct, then Kinesiology is a good option which should cover most to all Nursing school requirements. It can also prepare you for Physical therapy or occupational therapy graduate programs if you do the PrePhysical therapy emphasis.
Microbiology is another major to consider although very Chemistry heavy in course work.
There are many ways to get to your goal of being a nurse including the following:
- Community college to get your ADN/RN then apply to Nursing school
2)Do you Nursing pre-req’s at SDSU and then apply for transfer to another CSU Nursing school.
- 4 year BA/BS then a post Bacc program
You have a solid GPA so hopefully you are applying to several other Cal states that have the 2+2 Nursing programs. I would include CSU Long Beach, Sonoma State, San Bernardino, San Marcos, Channel Islands, San Jose to include a few.
Best of luck.
I am in state but not super local, does the kinesiology program accept people with 3.8s? Is it typically impacted?
I am applying under Kinesiology with a 3.75 GPA so I don’t think your in a bad boat
@BUCKY12345: All Majors at SDSU are Impacted. Apply to a major you want to study for the next 4 years and apply widely to several schools.
For 2019 average CSU GPA for all admitted students was 3.97. No data for GPA by major so you are within range. It depends upon on how you compare against other applicants in your major.
Hey, @Gumbymom, I just wanted to know what are my chances of getting into SDSU.
My CSU Capped GPA is a (4.05)
I have completed 22.5 A-G courses ( 8 AP’s and 2 Honors)
My intended major is Business Administration-Management
I am a (local) applicant in San Diego.
Other Cal States I’m applying to are CSU-Fullerton, CSU-Long Beach, and Cal Poly Slo, all for Business Administration-Managment. Please give me an idea of my chances getting into SDSU and these other CSU’s.
@Juicyfruit2443: As a local for SDSU, you are a Match applicant with an average admit GPA of 3.97 not major specific.
For CSULB, average admit GPA for Business majors was a 3.89 so you also within range as a Match school. Instead of the Eligibility index, CSULB has their own index for Freshman admission this year.
** The CSULB Index is a result of a formula that combines your achievement in your high school college preparatory subjects, along with your cumulative GPA in grades 10th through 12th. The formula is a combination of using your cumulative GPA, along with your Math and English subject GPA’s.
The CSULB Index for CSULB ranking is calculated as follows:
(College Preparatory Grade Point Average* X 200) + (500 x HS Math Subject GPA) + (500 x HS English GPA).
Refer to the College Preparatory Grade Point Average section below for details on how this GPA is calculated.**
SLO will be a slightly tougher admit and they use 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation. They still cap the Honors points at 8 semesters in the calculation. The middle 50% admit GPA was 3.96-4.25 for Business majors. SLO also takes into account your HS course rigor and EC’s (hours/week) along with Leadership positions and jobs related to your intended major.
Since test scores are not a consideration this admission cycle, more emphasis will be on HS course rigor and GPA which makes you competitive.
Best of luck.
I saw that the application by major for 2020 was released and was wondering if they released the average GPA for 10-11.
The Office of Admissions told me that they don’t hold the statistics for average GPA by major, but across all majors, it is a 3.93.
@sfteen Do you know if that’s the average CSU GPA or total GPA?
@annien9009: the average CSU Capped Weighted CSU GPA has always been listed under SDSU’s fast facts except for this year. On average the CSU CW GPA has increased anywhere from a 0.2 to 0.4 each year since my son applied 6 years ago.
I would wager it is close to last year’s average of 3.97. What matters is what the average admit GPA by major was for the 2020 admits, which SDSU never publishes.
CSU GPA: 3.62
Intended major: integrated Education
APs: 3
Community college classes: 2
honors: 3
CTE education classes: 2
Local: no, I’m from Cali though.
