SDSU or UCSC

HI guys!
The deadline to turn in the intent to register is rapidly approaching, and i have yet to make my decision! So i'm turning to here for some opinions.
The two main schools i'm considering are SDSU and UCSC.

SDSU
_if you knew me, you'd know i'm in LOVE with san diego
_far from home [good thing]
_good student life
_beautiful city & enviornment
_nice campus

UCSC
_it's a UC
_close to home [eww]
_dont like the enviornment
_more prestigious [not much], better for me educational-wise

so which is it, should i go to a school in a city that i'm in love with? or go to a school that is better for me, but i dont like the enviornment and i dont like it there?

let me know what you think.

<3

i'd go with SDSU, you seem to like it more-and it's one of the better state schools in CA.

Go to SDSU since you already liked it there. You seems to list mostly cons for UCSC and all pros for SDSU. tip: don't go to a school you don't like.

yeah, i though this decision was going to be an easy one. sdsu has just a biology major, while ucsc has a neuroscience/bio major.

according to some people "UC degree > State school degree"

hence the hard decision =</p>

Here's the question you have to ask yourself: Do you want to have a good eduation while going to a school you don't like, or do you want to have a ok eduation while going to a school you do like.

ucsc isnt that much better than sdsu, lol.

just be forewarned, SDSU is not a very academic enviorment at all. my brother and some good friends of mine go there, and all you ever do at SDSU is party. as my friend says, "there are two states that you find yourself in at sdsu: drunk and more drunk". i visited my brother earlier this year, and it was true. people mostly concern themselves with getting wasted 24/7, and greek life dominates the social world.

i feel that at UCSC people will be much more academically focused. obviously there'll still be plenty of opportunities to drink and party, but at SDSU it's overkill. not only that, but graduating in 4 years at SDSU is not easy at all.

i don't know. i dont' really know anyone that really likes sdsu (and i have about 4 good friends who go there, in addition to my brother) so i would keep that in mind. if getting an education is your first priority in college (which i think it should be?), i would go for ucsc.

but of course, if you really don't like ucsc, dont' go there. no point in going somewhere you know that you don't like.

why would it be hard to graduate in 4 years at sdsu?

it is EXTREMELY hard to get the classes you need for your major at state schools.

i'm not entirely sure of the graduation rate within 4 years, but i believe it's fairly low (below 50%)

How is it EXTREMELY hard? I've gotten all my classes I need at SDSU...

PS i know about 400 people at SDSU and i'd say about 398 of them love it here, including myself.

savedbythebell, why are you taking a class at a community college?

because i decided to carry on extra units, so later I can take acctg 520, which essentially prepares you for the CFP exam, and still graduate in 4 years. Plus business law is a much easier class at the community college and its an 8 week course.

UCSC has an awesome environment.

sdsu and ucsc are both state schools, so why does it matter?

People usually use the term "state school" in CA to refer just to the California State University system - San Francisco State, Cal Poly, CSULB, SDSU, etc. The University of California campuses are in a different system.

oh, I was thinking of state school in terms of state funded universities.

But you make a good point, nonetheless.
