SDSU Out of State Scholarships

Does San Diego State award scholarships to oos students? I applied for 12 of them that I was eligible for and it did not say anything about having to be in state. Also, when are students notified if they received a scholarship? I also submitted my FAFSA on January 5th but my AidLink account on SDSU’s website says I still have not submitted it.

Don’t count on getting any free money/aid from SDSU. If you have a low EFC, you’ll get a small fed grant, but no other free money.

How much will your parents pay each year?

SCSU is one of the more competitive CSU campuses. I don’t believe your ACT score of 21 is going to be high enough to net you any scholarship money from the school. Plus, if you are OOS, you can plan on spending at least your EFC, plus the cost differential between in and out of state students plus a student contribution.

Because you are OOS, you don’t qualify for the Calgrant which is where most need based aid is given.

If you are very low income, you might get a Pell grant. You can also take $5500 in Direct loans for your freshman year.

But the full Pell plus the $5500 Direct loan would be only just above $11,000 which won’t pay for SDSU.

I agree with @thumper1 that your ACT score is not competitive enough for most of these scholarships. Are the scholarships you applied for 1 year or are they renewable? Do they have a GPA requirement to maintain your eligibility? I believe there are no restrictions for OOS vs in-state regarding eligibility, but most SDSU scholarships are designated for in-state applicants. Not sure how much each scholarship amount will be if you are a recipient, but most Cal states expect OOS applicants to be full pay, meaning $36K/year for tuition/room/board/expenses. I wish you good luck and you will probably notified once you are accepted into the university.

Thank you for your input! I have retaken the SAT and bumped my score up to 1700, which is still not spectacular I know but is better. I applied for many Real Estate major scholarships and they all differed in award amount from $100-full in state tuition. Some were renewable and some were not. The minimum GPA for most were 3.0. There are also not many people in my major as last year 196 people applied, 40 got accepted and only a percentage of those actually went to the school. Thank you all for your advice!
