Hello, everyone! I was recently admitted into SDSU and Cal Poly as a transfer student. I am studying economics but am unsure of which school to go to. They are both really good schools so it is a tough decision. I plan on going to graduate school to earn a Ph.D. in economics and become a professor.
I am also concerned about the surrounding area, social life, and things to do in each city (SD and SLO). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Intermediate economics courses at CPSLO may be more math intensive (prerequisite of calculus listed at CPSLO, but only “recommended” at SDSU). More math intensive would be preferable for pre-PhD students.
In addition, pre-PhD economics students should consider taking more math and statistics than is usually required for economics majors, such as multivariable calculus, linear algebra, real analysis, and calculus-based probability theory.
SLO is one of few colleges in CA where most students live on/near campus and make up a big part of the local population. So SLO will have a good college feel. At SDSU most students live spread out over the San Diego area, including at Mission and Pacific beaches. San Diego is a nice town, but it won’t have a college town feel.
