SDSU vs IU Business

Hi, I’m an upcoming freshman this fall semester and I have been accepted into both SDSU and IU as a business marketing major. I plan on switching to Business Finance if possible. However, I was not given direct admissions into IU and therefore must take a year outside of their Kelley School of Business before I can transfer into that system. The requirements to transfer are all B’s my freshman year and even then it’s not guaranteed. I read somewhere that they accept around 50% who receive standard admissions. Tuition is not necessarily and issue. I am just afraid that if I go to IU, I may not end up at Kelley. I do have a lot of AP credits and I read that if I take some summer courses, I can knock it down to only one semester. With SDSU, I have already been admitted directly into their business school and there won’t be any stress of transfering. SDSU seems to be the safer option but the prestige of Kelley makes me wonder if it may be worth the risk. If anybody can give me some advice or just questions that may help me decide, it would be greatly appreciated. I know this is sort of a decision that I have to make on my own, however, I want some insight on how SDSU’s business program compares to IU’s and whether or not you think it’s worth taking my chances and go to IU as a standard admit.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Greatly depends on several factors. If you aren’t admitted to IU after one year you could probably get into the SDSU business school as a junior. My son is going to SDSU next year for business and have a daughter at Cal Poly SLO. I received my MBA from Kelley and feel that it was an excellent school/value. Cost is a huge factor; for my son the cost is almost exactly double to go to IU. A lot of it also depends on where you see yourself after graduation. Even with a great reputation, most of the companies interviewing for business/marketing are going to be consumer goods companies in the industrial Midwest. SDSU is more of a regional school, but good for living in California/Arizona/Nevada.
