So I’m an undergraduate first year at SDSU pursing an accounting degree. Upon graduation, I want to purse a career in accounting, specifically a CPA. I am on pace to graduate SDSU my third year, and I intend on doing so. Since you only need 120 units to graduate, and you need 150 units before taking the CPA exam, I would need to go to graduate school for a masters in accounting to accumulate 30 more units. Since I am from San Francisco, I am considering their masters in accounting program. Both programs take only about one year to finish requirements to graduate. Let’s say I get into both programs, which school would be the better choice?
Also, how would SJSU’s program stack up compared to the 2. Thanks
Academically and in terms of prestige, I think SDSU>SJSU>SFSU
My $.02 as a 25+ year CPA in California, SDSU does have a better academic reputation, but I think all three of those schools have some “regional bias.” SJSU & SFSU grads get hired well into No Cal jobs. SDSU hires well into San Diego and So Cal.
That’s not to say that your can’t go SJSU and get a job in LA (for example).
I might also consider going to USC for their masters in accounting or taxation. It’s a very well regarded program and you can get hired anywhere coming out of there.
Good luck!
I would definitely agree, I was just going with which was probably known best. Is the accounting program impacted at any of those? I had a friend doing a bus major at SFSU who was really struggling to graduate on time.
