Good Luck to all those participating in Sea Trials. Hope it is a successful day with no injuries.

Pictures from last year. This is what they do today:

Herndon next and then Plebes no more.

Just talked to my Plebe - very briefly. Sea Trials went ~2.5 hours longer than last year. Supe wants to make training more realistic, so she mentioned evolutions such as “pushing a Humvee” and “piling sand bags,” in addition to PT and other prior year evolutions. Since many military operations occur at night, so did a significant chunk of this year’s Sea Trials, which started at 0100. The last physical exercise ended ~1745, followed by remarks from the Dant.

Sea Trials = The Academy’s way of curing sleeplessness! :)

The article mentions that 400 plebes were away on “other training assignments.” So they won’t get to do Herndon either? What are they doing? And does not having done Sea Trials make them stand out, so to speak, for the rest of their USNA careers or is it accepted that some just can’t participate?

Block 0. 5/8/09 - 5/22/09. Abreviated summer training block.

0 Block is a bust for both Plebes and the Second Class as Plebes typically will not get to do Sea Trials, Herndon or be there for Commissioning. Second Class don’t get to go to Ring Dance.

Many of the Mids who get 0 Block are varsity Athletes - although certainly not a requirement. By getting training done earlier in the summer, they can get back to their sports training regiment and like football summer practice.

My son’s roommate missed Herndon and Sea Trials - no big deal in the eyes of the company. He just is not in any of the pictures. Other Roommate is missing Ring Dance this year - they will miss him!

It is one of those events you will look back at down-the-road and remember…both Sea Trials and Herndon.
